Overwatch introduces their 30th hero, Baptiste, to the current hero roster.

Yesterday, Blizzard published the Origin-Story of their 30th Overwatch Hero, Baptiste. Today, his abilities and a Developer Update have been published, all dedicated to the new Support-Character from the hero roster. They also released him on the Public Test Realms (PTR) where everyone can try him out!

The Developers want to bring more variety for Support-Characters with Baptiste. Currently on the Live-Servers, there are seven Tanks, sixteen Damage Dealers and only six Support heros. Now they have a even count with the Tanks.

Abilities

BIOTIC LAUNCHER (Weapon)
Baptiste’s three-round-burst Biotic Launcher rewards accuracy and recoil control with significant damage output. It also doubles as a healing device, lobbing projectiles that heal allies near the point of impact.

REGENERATIVE BURST (First Ability)
Baptiste activates an intense regenerative burst that heals himself and nearby allies over time.

IMMORTALITY FIELD (Second Ability)
Baptiste uses a device to create a field that prevents allies from dying. The generator can be destroyed.

AMPLIFICATION MATRIX (Ultimate)
Baptiste creates a matrix that doubles the damage and healing effects of friendly projectiles that pass through it.

EXO BOOTS (Passive)
By first crouching, Baptiste can jump higher.

STORY

Jean-Baptiste Augustin is his name, one of the 30 million children orphaned by the Omnic Crisis. Because of limited opportunities and resources, Jean-Baptiste enlisted in the military where The Carribean Coalition became his new home, a pan-island force formed in response to the Crisis. Guided by his innate desire to help people, he chose the path of a combat medic and served in an elite branch of their special ops.

Baptiste struggled to find a demand for his unique skills, after his service was complete. The Talon mercenary group, one of the many organizations that were poised to profit off the chaos in the war's aftermath, offered him an opportunity and Baptiste took it.

Talon's missions were easy and paid well, and for the first time ever, Baptiste had a taste of good life. He put aside some of his earnings to oset up a clinic in his hometown. As his unit's orders slowly escalated in brutality, expanding into assassinations and operations with civillian casualties, Baptiste abandoned Talon, disgusted with what he had done and determines to forge a new path for himself.

But Talon would not let him go, as he knew too much. They sent operatives after him to silence him, but agent after agent, including Baptiste's former comrades, who were able to track him down, were never seen again.

Now, Baptiste works toward a better world, healing where he can and fighting when he must. He knows that he cannot undo his past - but that making a difference now is what matters. As an elite combat medic and ex-Talon operative, he now uses his skills to help those whose lives have been impacted by the war.

When will he get to the Live-Servers?
This far, Blizzard has not released any announcement to when Baptiste is supposed to join the hero roster officially on the live servers. In most cases, new heros have been tested for 2-3 weeks on the PTR before they have been released.

That means, we can expect Baptiste to be available outside of the testrealms at the beginning to the mid of March. Going to the end of March, Baptiste should be released. But you won't be able to use the new hero in the Competitive scene. Since the release of Brigitte, all new heroes can only be played in Ranked Matches when a new season starts.

What do you think about Baptiste? Do you like his story, have you tested him? Share your thoughts in the comments or in the Holodeck forum section. :)
