Fans of the “The Crown”, a British Netflix drama series which highlights and portrays the life of Queen Elizabeth II, will be very happy to hear that the show’s 4th season will premier on November 15th, 2020.
This time around, the years 1977 – 1989 will be covered in 10 episodes allowing the audience will take part in several major events during that period, such as Margaret Thatcher’s premiership, the Falklands War in 1982, and Prince Charles’s marriage with Lady Diana Spencer.
The main cast which has already been introduced in season three will also be seen in season four. The Queen will be portrayed by Academy Award winner Olivia Colman, Prince Philip by Tobias Menzies and Prince Charles by Josh O’Connor. In several flashbacks Claire Foy and Matt Smith, who played the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh in seasons one and two, are said to return to the show as well. New actresses and actors to the series include Emma Corrin as Lady Diana and X-Files star Gillian Anderson as Prime Minster Margaret Thatcher.

Emma Corrin as Lady Diana
Asked her about her role as the “Iron Lady”, Mrs. Anderson said, “I am so excited to be joining the cast and crew of The Crown and to have the opportunity to portray such a complicated and controversial woman. Thatcher was undoubtedly formidable but I am relishing exploring beneath the surface and, dare I say, falling in love with the icon who, whether loved or despised, defined an era.”
Actress Emma Corrin stated, “I have been glued to the show and to think I’m joining this incredibly talented acting family is surreal. Princess Diana was an icon and her effect on the world remains profound and inspiring. To explore her through Peter Morgan's writing is the most exceptional opportunity, and I will strive to do her justice.”
The filming of season four began in August 2019 and ended in March 2020, shortly before the COVID-19 lockdown. The planned release date fortunately, didn’t have to be delayed.

It has already been confirmed that there will be a fifth and a final sixth season of the famous show – this time with Imelda Staunton as the Queen and Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip, as the main cast changes every two seasons.
Being “glued to this show”, as Mrs. Corrin pointed out, is something I personally can just underline. I remember being skeptical about the series when a friend of mine told me about it. A show highlighting the daily life of the Royal family you read about nearly every day in various newspapers and magazines? Yeah, right…!
She convinced me, however, to take a look at the first episode which I found to be merely, okay. I then watched the second one the same evening… and I was suddenly caught. Family problems, strokes of fate, political intrigues, and catastrophes abound, all revolving around one woman in the center who has to uphold, preserve, and defend Great Britain, the Commonwealth, the monarchy, and her family.
Today I’m sitting here counting the days until November 15th.
