I was meaning to reply to this earlier as I read your reply and I have to agree with you both on the grounds that it's a very interesting topic, as I'm the same, I find issues like this quite engaging as it does give you that scope to think, what if?
I think it would be both interesting but terrifying if we were able to look into these probable universes as how would we feel if we found that some decision we made led to us not being as successful or worse.
I do always wonder whether the human mind would be able to cope with that sort of conundrum as well.
Oh for sure! This sorta stuff is my jam haha, there might be a species or even several capable of perceiving this sorta thing, especially if you consider that time could be the 4th dimension. At our current stage of evolution I’d imagine that we’d simply be unable to perceive or even comprehend such things, perhaps our brains would react in some manner that would be detrimental to our survival. I know it sounds really cliche but total madness would be my expected outcome.
There are those that we believe we will one day evolve to the point were we can understand the nature of the universe as a single equation, so who knows what incredible discoveries are waiting to found out there.
What if you know you were going to get hit by a car tomorrow, naturally you’d take action(s) to avoid that but perhaps by doing that you end up getting hit regardless. Something Guinian said from best of both worlds seems apt here: “When a man is convinced he’s gonna die tomorrow, he’ll probably find a way to make it happen”.
Its very similar to Quantum Super-positioning in Quantum Mechanics whereby something, whether it be an object, state of matter or whatever can exist in every possible form and version at the same time and only becomes one of those states once it’s observed. This could be applied to the ideology of a multiverse, whereby our actions as humans dictate what the outcome, consequence etc. becomes or happens and that a new reality or timeline is formed when a different action is taken.
For example, one day I turned left to walk down the street to go the supermarket for groceries. But what would have happened if I turned right instead? What possibilities could happen by me making such a simple decision? Thanks for writing such an awesome article!
