911 was called and Nimoy was rushed to a hospital on February 19. Nimoy complained of severe chest pains and was taken to UCLA Medical Center. TMZ reported that paramedics did not want to take any chances with Nimoy and opted to rush him to a doctor over treating him on the spot.
Nimoy has spoken in the past of pains and breathing difficulty due to his COPD - chronic obstructive pulmonary disease - which he blames on his years spent smoking. Revealing his diagnosis in early 2014, Nimoy warned his followers on Twitter away from smoking: “I quit smoking 30 years ago. Not soon enough. I have COPD. Grandpa says, quit now!! LLAP [Live Long and Prosper].”
This is not the first time Nimoy’s health concerns have been raised in recent months, as the octogenarian has been in and out of hospital. Though weighed down by his disease, Nimoy continues to stay involved with his fans through Tweets. Earlier today, he tweeted: “A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP”
