Jennifer Lien, the actress who portrayed Kes on Star Trek: Voyager, has been arrested and charged with exposing herself to children under the age of 13. This has been confirmed by the Roane County Sheriff's Office to multiple news outlets, and Lien is also currently listed on their inmate database, with two charges of indecent exposure.
Lien was arrested on September 3, and her bond is set at $2,500.
Initially officers arrived at Lien’s home in Harriman, Tennessee to issue a detainer summons, a court issued summons that a landlord can typically ask for to force a tenant pay rent or be evicted. A dispatcher notified the officers on the scene that there was a warrant out for Lien for exposing herself.
Several reports stated that Lien “flashed” or exposed herself to two crying children in an effort to stop their crying. Officers were forced into a physical altercation with Lien and had to cover her. Lien’s neighbor, Carey Smith, told East Tennessee news outlet WATE 6 that Lien was screaming and threatened to kill the officers. The official report, filed by officer Billy Walker, reads “The offender stated she wasn’t going any f--king where and we needed to leave her alone”
Lien has also been arrested for aggravated assault, resisting arrest, evading arrest, reckless endangerment and domestic assault.
A far more even handled news article regarding this topic than I have seen anywhere else. Attempting to give both sides equal billing is something most news organizations seem to have left behind long ago. Well done.
Hopefully she gets the help and care she needs, and hopefully this won't affect the children too greatly.
