An excellent prequel comic book series, collected in one volume, that explains the events of Nero and Spock as they figure out a way to get to the past, and inadvertently create an alternate timeline. This is an excellent adventure that links the prime universe with the events of the Kelvin timeline (e.g., Abramsverse or NuTrek). Follow favorites like Picard and Data and Spock as they prepare for an inevitable shift in the space time continuum!

As mentioned in the descriptions above, this is an excellent segue between what we call the Prime Universe and now the Kelvin Timeline. It links the 24th century and the post-Nemesis starships and crew, including Data and Picard, with the Romulan Nero who goes back in time, followed by Spock, to change history. It is a true "Countdown" to the NuTrek (aka Kelvin aka JJ Trek) era of Star Trek.

The perfect prelude to a good reboot in my opinion. Although a lot of this should have been in the movie it connected a lot of the dots that were left in my mind after 2009.

I think it's a must read before you watch the 2009 movie.
As Cayman Greener said, it links the "Orginal" Timeline perfectly with the Kelvin Timeline.
The comic explains lots of background questions about Nero, the romulans and Spock.
