Hello fellow {UFP} members
For those that don’t know me is my name Elessar and well I am this fleet’s crazy ship designer and the one the SFC is trying to lock up in a padded cell in the basement (just joking) but I get some ideas the one crazier then the other and so on.
Still in early 2007 did I start working on a ship design for fun and to learn more about drawing things on blueprints and making them detailed. So in late 2007 did Alex Munro set up a contest for the fleet to draw and design the ship that would become the new {UFP} Flagship. What I understood did the SFC have a hard time to select the winning design from the 9 ship designs that have entered the contest and in the end was it between 3 designs.

the Atlantis class designed by Elessar




As you can guess did I win the contest and the Atlantis class did become the new Flagship for the fleet. After I had won the contest I started learning about 3D modeling and in the 2nd UFPAC of 2009 did the first animation of the Flagship was seen.


Since then have there come 2 more animations of the current flagship




still there was the complete Flagship I could do with my skill in 3D animation at that time was good looking but had a lot of flaws in it. Still she is my first 3D model and it will have a special place in my heart.
So after that I decided to work on an new ship and came up with the Blade class




Sadly did she become too big for my computer to handle the model mostly because of my lack of skill and knowledge in 3ds max.

So I decided to redo the Atlantis class into a new version better looking shape and more details since I had improved a lot since I first made her. So I started redoing her design a bit and after a two month or so I did realize that it would not be the same to redo her I know sentimental still not the same. So I did rethink the project did keep the main design made it larger and changed the design a bit made it longer and more slimed so it would look nicer. So I named the project Atlantis Class MkII since I had no better name and she did look a lot like the original design. Then I came up with the name of Corona Class that I got from the solar corona since it is a beautiful thing and still dangerous




So here we are at the present time I have been working on her design for some time now and gotten to like it as much as the Atlantis class still it have a lot of flaws in the design since I had not learnt the program properly. So now when I have done some reading up on the 3ds max program I though should I try and fix the design flaws or should I redo her from start. I have been thinking of this quiet some time. came I did realize that I have a big task to make this ship look really good since it will become the next Flagship of the fleet. So I have decided to redo her from start. And this time I am going to do something new for a change I am going to let you members tag along of this progress. Guess some of you wonder what the hell does he mean by that. Well it is quiet easy explained since I have started working on making my 3D ships you have seen sporadic updates of the ship work with huge gaps in pictures on the ships when I have done a lot and then the animations I have done for the UFPAC. So this time I will do it a bit different. I am going to set up this thread and try to post weekly updates on how things are going with the ship so you guys in the fleet will be able to follow along in the progress when I make the new Flagship of the fleet. I hope this is a fun idea sadly this might also work as a spoiler of the future animations I make of this ship for the UFPAC . will try and figure out a way to surprise the fleet with the with the animations in the future in a new way.

In this post you can also comment on the work I do and feel free to ask questions about the ship if you have any. That way I know I am doing something fun for the fleet. Also I am happy to discuss ideas and suggestions you might have as well either post them in here where everyone can read them or send me a pm your choice.

So enough chattering from me this time next post I will have will be the first of the ship progress with early model images of the new Corona class the next Flagship of the {UFP}

I did a course in 3D design & used 3Dmax, so I know how tough it is to work with. Wish I could help, but time has made me lose most of my modeling knowledge.

Hello again guys
I must say thank you for all those that have come in and read this post. I guess some of you have been disappointed since it had no pictures of the new version of the Corona class. However here comes the first update on the ship I hope some of you will like her. So far have I put in around 14 hours on this model. So yes I will keep a time log on this project mostly for myself to see how long it will take to complete her.
Still here is the first pictures of the new ship enjoy.


The first step is to layout the blueprints in the program as you can see in this first picture
the second step is to size her up and for that I make a box to see the height, width and length


the third step I do is make smaller boxes to get the size of all main parts on the ship

The pictures that come now is the step by step progress on the ship.













As you can see does the ship now look as the old corona class that I worked on before. As you can see as well does the ship not have any main nacelles on it. This is because of I am not sure yet how they will look I have some ideas so I will model a few of them to see what fits best on the ship.

Also as some of you have figured out sine I am doing animations of my work. Is that this way when I show the progress I will take out a bit of the “wow” effect from the animations. So I have figured out the perfect way to bring it back. I will chop up the ship in sections and work on them one section at the time so I won’t show the whole ship as I have before in threads.

So this is the only time you will see the ship whole in pictures until it is done so keep a look out for the Coming UFPAC when I will show the ship in one piece

Wow!

Most impressive work Elessar! The size of that ship will be enormous... considering it can fit a Defiant-class ship in it's main bay.

Just wondering, by your estimates, how big would this ship be in comparison to a Sovereign-class ship?

thank you gregory house. sadly is the Corona class not that big to fit a Defiant Class in it even if it would be good to do that I would have to blow it up to over 2000m in length so it would look good.
the ship you refering to is the Blade class. I still have that project open but due to a miss work it is to big for my old computer to handle. still will redo it after the Corona class

so the Corona class will be abit bigger that the sovereing class and almost three times bigger then the Atlantis class

Hello everyone
It is time for a new weekly update. This week I have been working on some small things on the secondary hull (or engineering section) but no major changes. I am trying to come up with a new design for the main deflector dish. Still the major change I have pictures on is the main nacelles for the Corona class that I will show you guys so enjoy






Here you see the rough inside of the main Nacelle. The blue part is the warp core cooling element and the green is the new transwarp slipstream cooling element. In the front you have the buzzard collectors

All comments and questions are welcome. The more you ask the more I will tell and you will know about the ship.

Hello All

I am not sure how many that have watched the animations of the Atlantis class posted in the first post in this thread in that you see the ship in a Construction dock and I my self think that the second animation is my best one I made so far. still just to have the ship in a animation is not so realistic I think so I have been thinking alot on how the Construction dock will look like for the Corona class. so I have now modeld a part of the docks main construction it will come more to it like a station where parts and materials for the ship building can be stored and shuttlebays for the workbee fleet and of course rooms for the personnel that is building the ship. but that will you see in the fisrt animation of this project in the coming UFPAC in may/june.
so in the mean time hope you like this picture of the construction dock for the Corona class the next Flagship of the {proud {UFP} Fleet.

thanks Hyperion but that is just the basic structure. allready have I added a station section where the personnel that works on the ship lives, where the Workbee fleet have shuttlebays and where cargo ships can dock and unload and so on.

I guees some want to see how it looks but sadly you have to wait. I plan to relese it in the first animation how it looks so hang in there what I can say it will be worth the wait

Acctoly I am going to go all out on this. first modeling then texturing and after that light effects and so on so this will be a very very long project
