As requested, the Star Trek secrets thread makes a return!
Basically in this thread, say something or share information on a little secret or less of a known fact about something in Star Trek, and believe me, there's quite a lot.
_________________________________________________________
I'll start off by sharing that, did you know that the Star Trek Voyager set was based and built on the same set as Star Trek The Next Generation?
_________________________________________________________
When Stephen Hawking was taken on a tour of the USS Enterprise-D engine room set, he indicated the warp core and said, "I'm working on that"?
_________________________________________________________
Denise Crosby left Star Trek: The Next Generation before the first season ended because she felt her character was not being given enough to do?
_________________________________________________________
Enterprise's "Broken Bow", Commander Williams and Admirals Leonard and Forrest were named for William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, and DeForest Kelley? Admiral Forrest ended up becoming a recurring character.
_________________________________________________________
Deep Space 9's Promenade was the largest standing set in Hollywood?
_________________________________________________________
Following a large earthquake in Los Angeles, Armin Shimerman did not have time to remove his Ferengi makeup when he rushed to go home to check on his family and the makeup "scared the living sh*t out of people"?
_________________________________________________________
Did you know that the parasites seen in TNG Season 1 episode 'Conspiracy' was mean't to become a major threat to the Federation although due to budgets, the writers decided to create a new major threat instead, which turned out to be the borg!
_________________________________________________________
Did you know that the full name for the actor that played Dr Bashir is actually Siddig El Tahir El Fadil El Siddig Abderahman Mohammed Ahmed Abdel Karim El Mahdi and that when auditions began he was originally considered to portray Sisko?
He is also related to Malcolm McDowell (who played Dr Soran in Generations) and a former prime minister of Sudan and was the father Nana Visitor's (Kira) child that she was pregnant with during the filming of DS9 which was explained on screen as being the O'Briens' child. The two got married in 1997 (2 years before the end of DS9) and got divorced in 2001 (2 years after the end of DS9).
__________________________________________________________
Did you know that Geordi Laforge was actually named after a die-hard Trek fan named George Laforge?
In what would be a dream come true for any die-hard fan, the Next Generation character Lieutenant Geordi La Forge, played by LeVar Burton, was named after a Trekkie. George La Forge was a devoted attendee of numerous Trek conventions who had muscular dystrophy. He had allegedly built a friendship with Gene Roddenberry over the years, and as a salute of sorts, Roddenberry named a character after him. Notably, like his namesake, the character has a disability (he

The new JJ Verse's Enterprise was designed to be 366m long. JJ decided ships in sci-fi should be huge, as a rule, so he had the VFX team inflate the design to become 725m long. The new Enterprise is pretty much as big as the Enterprise-E
All they pretty much did was shrink the windows and the scale of other parts of the ship don't seem to make sense anymore, ie. the bridge module

Robert Duncan McNeil (Tom Paris) played the part of the 4th year cadet in the episode of TNG where Wesley Crusher's flight group was brought in court martial for the death of another student due to using that starburts manuver before getting anywhere near being in Voyager.
A picture of him in that episode was also used in a Voyager episode when Admiral Paris was thinking about his son.

The Jeffries Tube is named after ship/military base designer Matt Jeffries, the designer of the orginal Enterprise and just about every ship in the original series.
Mark Leonard, the actor for Sarek, played the romulan commander in the episode "Balance of Terror."
Commander Chapel (Nurse Chapel, played by Majel Barret Roddenberry) was featured in Star Trek IV in Starfleet Command durring the probe's attack on Earth.
Nurse Chapel was in the new Star Trek film discretly. The only reference was from Dr. McCoy (Karl Urban) who said her name after the first attack on the Enterprise by the Narada.

*****The Cast*****
There were Cast problems just ahead of filmimg:

Did you know then...
...that the Battle of Cardassia in the Deep Space Nine finale "What You Leave Behind" primarily consists of stock footage?
...that in Admiral Ross's original line during the Battle of Cardassia was "The Romulan flagship D'ridthau has been destroyed", but the name of the flagship was dropped from the final cut of the episode?
...that during the Battle of Cardassia several shots of the new Defiant were from previous battles and that in several shots the "NX-74205" registry is clearly visible?

ST Voyager: The Delaney Sisters
The Sisters who worked in Stella Cartogrophy where frequently mentioned throughout the series by Paris and Kim ( so often that some fans speculated that "the delaney twins" was some kind of euphemistic code for a relationship between them).
They got their first names, Jenny and Megan, in episodes "Prime factors" and the "chute" respectively in the whole series they only appear once in the episode "Thirty Days"
