Sulu most likely comes from a Japanese-Filipino family. His first name, Hikaru, is Japanese for light, while his second name, Sulu, was named after the Sulu sea and province in the Philippines.

Sulu was born in San Fransisco. In the Japanese version of Star Trek he was Kato which is a Japanese surname rather than Sulu.

Alas we don't know that much about Sulu's heritage although we do know that Sulu's great great grandfather was Japanese and was living in America during the 1980s.

Back to discussing the original topic at hand guys.

I have a sociology theory as to why China has a propensity to steal ideas... and make it their own.

Basically, it is my understanding/belief that it is extremely difficult to come up with 'original' ideas in a conformist society. New ideas require thinking out of the box, which goes against the pressure to conform to what society has dictated to be 'normal'.

However, this conformity does breed an ingenuity of breaking down other ideas and adapting them to your own.

So... this logo theft/modification... perhaps someone in that Agency pitched the idea based on Western belief that this logo is destined for a good future. Or it could be that the logo itself is pretty ego-centric, which the chinese have plentiful of. Look at the kanji for "China". It literally means "Middle Kingdom". Center. The Center of everything. The Best.

I find it interesting, nonetheless. Though my sweep generalizations may not convey my ideas why very well.
