Despite there still being some resentment at the devs destroying the best mmo I've ever played, I'm still quite sad that it is closing. I wonder how much of SWTOR has factored into that decision and whetehr it was SOE or LA that made the decision.

I imagine this was a planned move with the start of Old Republic. Once it hits the market, SWG would have been a "ghost town".

I guess this isn't that suprising, I expected it to happen at some point back when SWTOR was announced. What is suprising is that they are closing SWG yet keeping a game like Vanguard running, which still does not have nearly the population as SWG. Not saying Vanguard is a bad game, I enjoyed it back in it's day but SOE just did not put that much effort into supporting it and it has bottomed out.

Then again, I felt they should have closed SWG when they put the NGE into effect, because they killed the game at that point.

Sony has been hurting in lately. Their electronics are facing tough competition, their phone market is kaput/died, and their movie studio isn't making money as they expected. A lot of losses and they need to recoup some.

I read an article that they are planning to sell their movie studio (Columbia/Tristar I believe) as it still is a 'positive asset'. SWG and SOE could be collateral damage from this fallout that Sony is experiencing.

SOE has made and keeps making a lot of mistakes where their gaming products are concerned. Though I am very sad that SWG is closing I am not surprised at all. Still the final decision would have laid with LA they maintained license with the game and controlled what changes were made. If LA did agree with SOE to pull the plug, then that is a bit of surprise it was LA that said since SWG and SWTOR were different time periods that they will not discontinue one for the the other even if they competed against each other. However LA has been known to be hypocritical in a lot of their dealings.

it will be a sad day since it was a really good game when it came and up to the point the NGE hit the game after that it was going down hill. still I will miss the game and will miss it alot. it was the first MMORGP I ever played and helpet me learn english in typing and speaking much faster then I did in school. so SWG has and allways will have a special place in my heart and mind.

Don't be so sure, there hasn't yet been any official release of the system specs for SWTOR, my guess is they'll be targeting a wide range of system specs so just about anyone can play it, which would explain the WoWesque style graphics.

PS: Ignore the sig, I haven't gotten around to putting in for an update to it yet

I actually played longer during the NGE than I did than at any other time despite having a pre (and post) pub 13 jedi hehe. It did improve but it was a shadow of he game it was...

Well on friday I thought I would redo my SOE subscription just to play a bit of SWG for nostalgia. wanted to see my houses for one more time I had some really nice decorated housing, a huge guild hall that was jam packed with stuff.

Well SOE locked all my accounts. I had 3 with them at one time and my bank account got charged for a cancelled account so I disputed with my bank got my money back and now SOE locked all accounts associated with that card and will not unlock them. This included my main account with SWG and my EQ account I have had with them for 11 years, Simply put SOE stinks,
