Hahaha. You aren't the only one you feels that way, Steve. The forums on STO are full of like minded people who wish Cryptic would give the Dreadnought some love. It is kind of sad that the most expensive ship in the game is a lame duck, instead of the swan it is suppose to be.

The Galaxy is certainly an iconic ship, the Dreadnought should be... just better.

However, there are those who love it and use it, NXwolf is one example.

Anyhow... back on topic...

A Lifetime Sub is definitely an investment. In the long run it will pay for itself and then some. You can walk away and come back after a month, and never feel rushed about 'getting your playtime in'.

Currently at $15 (US)/month (if you pay month to month) or $300 (US) for lifetime. At that rate, you'll break even on your 21st month or so.

The dreadnaught can be a deadly weapon. We had a nice chat ingame on the ship. I even showed him how good it can be. It's turning rate is the key part to the ship running. I have 4 Mk XI RCS Accelerators on mine, which gives it a 140% turn rate increase.

The Deadnought is underpowered though and whilst I am sure yours turns pretty quick with all those RCS Accelerators think of how tough your hull would be if that was Neutronium. The Galaxy-X SHOULD be stronger than a Galaxy class but the VA Galaxy class just has better specs.

I can get my hull from 5% to 100% in 5 seconds. My ship is speced to long live in battle. Granted, I have shorted the DPS part some, but having the turn rate helps it out a lot. Personally, I think it's hull should have some more health to it, but even given it's current amount, I can stay in a battle for a pretty long time compared to most ships that I have seen.

I'd be very weary about dropping $250 on a lifer account. Me personally, I only pay for the game & a 1 year sub.

Even without that, I can repair pretty fast. I have 2 Eng Team Level 3 and a Aux to Struc Level 3. On top of that, I have photonic officer to reduce my ability timers making repair rate a lot faster. Miracle worker is really only a last resort for my ship or if I have no shields and a plasma is coming. Short of that, hull repair isn't a problem. Plus I have enough buff's that I can provide repairs to fleet mates as well.

But what is the time between when you do that and the next time you can do that?

In my tanking build, I don't have photonic officer, A2SIF3 or Eng Team and I can tank pretty well...I believe it's not so much how much you ca hull or shield heal but how much damage you can just absorb over time.

I run Tac Team x 2, Epts, A2sif1, TSSx2 and HEx2 and I can TANK like anything. People usually just get bored and attack someone else instead :p

Now who wouldn't want a lifetime subscription?

After the 3rd year of STO comes into play (we're on our 2nd now), who would have wished they got a lifer sub the previous year?

As has been said a few times, 6-years of Wow I have been a subbed member. $1300 spent. I think $250-300 one-time sub fee is so worth it.

I've got a lifetime sub and prefer it.

Big advantage is that I can come and go as much as I want to without worry about monthly payment, which means dont have to worry about levelling a character just to get top rank in a short time.

I figured at the start that I would want to play for a long time as big ST fan.. Still spend money in the C store though

When I first heard about STO a very...very long time ago(talking about Perpetual) I was praying for a lifetime sub - as I have them to other MMO's and have loved it to death. When I was in the really early limited beta I was weary about it, and when open beta hit I knew 100% sure that I would not get my 'moneys worth'. In all honesty, the lack of content in the game as a whole(not talking just post release) means you can easily do everything within 3 months(IE: all content at least once, max level, max crafting skill, etc) and then everything else is just grind or repeat.

It's worth noting that lifetime subs work for me because I'm extremely busy and don't really have the time to play. Due to this I tend to 'level slowly' and try to enjoy the game. Regardless of how slow you take it though, you'll run out of content extremely quickly. A lot of people tend to subscribe till they hit cap on one character and then unsub until the next update as spending 50~ USD on a sub when there is nothing new or anything to keep you entertained really isn't worth it.

If you intend to play hundreds of hours on the same 'grind' then a lifetime sub will end up being worth it, although with the sale of STO to PWI pending it might be even more of a gamble ;x
