It's only for new accounts though, which means those of us with accounts already wouldn't get the benefit of it unless we start a new account

It's supposed to be. A number of people on the STO forums have been able to redeem keys on their accounts. Stormshade has said this will be fixed.

Unfortunately Stormshades post even states they're for new accounts only

These keys should not be working on existing accounts. In short order, they will not be. This means that if you redeem a key from this site, you will not actually get any of the rewards. Once again, these keys are for new accounts only.

Hmm... might be a cache or something with your browser.

I just set up a new 2nd account. And I see that 2277 keys are still available.

On the STO website... after I created my first account on the Alienware arena site.

Basically, I now have 2 STO accounts. My regular lifer and my 60-day new account.
