I'm off the philosophy that social networking sites are evil and anyone who uses them need to always remember the golden rules.

1. Once on the Internet, it will always be on the internet.

2. Never put anything that you are not willing to share with the "World".

Not that it has happened to me, but I have a couple of friends (well, more acquaintances) that lost their job, denied a job, or basically got into trouble with their significant other because of these media outlets.

Just be aware and careful when you use them.

Actually, a lot of people prefer Google to Facebook (myself included) so I can definitely see something like that taking off.

I've found the perfect solution. Make sure there is nothing there that other people would want to know about you. If there's nothing in your life you want to keep hidden from anyone else, then you don't really have anything to worry about do you?

That's how i do it. I'm the easiest to find guy on the internet i think. Google gives 600+ hits on my nickname and more than 90% of them have something to do with me, present or past. I have nothing to hide, anyone is allowed to know everything.... except my pin and passwords.

When you google my nick on youtube or on google video you'll find 2 vids of me that one could consider embarressing... I'm pretty drunk in them. But do i have a problem with them? Nope, none at all. It's part of who i was, and therefore shaped who i am, and therefore i am not embarressed by them. Yes, i was drunk out of my skull that day in 2008.... So?

But i know i'm the unique exception in the weird wacky webz... when i take a picture, facebook comes up automatically to launch it into facebook or twitter but i do realize quite well that that happens. So you won't see me taking pictures i don't want everyone to see. (without logging off from facebook)

So i guess it really depends on the lifestyle and phylosophy of the social network user.

I use Facebook to keep up with friends at other uni's, but I'm not that fussed about it. I use Twitter to keep up to date about things happening around the world. I could live without them though, couldn't really care less if Facebook disappeared tomorrow. I still have my phone and email can keep in touch with people that way. Have to laugh when people compare how many "friends" they have. Then there are those who live their "lives" on Facebook.

Btw if you didn't know, unless you put copyright on it technically Facebook/twitter etc OWN that image once uploaded to their service. OR so I was told anyway :p.
