A few months ago, the United Federation of Planets introduced the department and division supervising positions, which were filled by Chris5626 and Sharpkiller. More recently, it was decided that a Department Aide position was to be added to the command chain to assist in the departmental supervising duties.

Chris had the following to say about the selection process.

"The quality of applicants was extraordinarily high and there was no-one that applied that I felt could not do the job I was very keen to take on someone with an established history in administration but did not to pull officers away from their existing assignments. The {UFP} is a gaming community and that needs to be remembered when assigning additional duties to people.

After much deciding then, I am happy to announce that the new position has been filled by Greg Tiberius who has as such been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Commander as part of the rank billet system.

"Greg Tiberius has an impressive track record, I don't think anyone could argue with his credentials I look forward to working with him" Chris5626 said earlier today regarding the new appointment.

For those that are unsure on who this person is, here is a quick overview. Greg Tiberius has recently re-joined the {UFP} after leaving several years back. In his previous {UFP} career he worked his way up to becoming a Flag Officer and had held positions such as CO of Internal Affairs until finishing his career as Secretary of State a position roughly equivalent to the Department Supervisor role.

Once Greg found out, he was quite pleased saying "I would like to thank Admiral Chris and Starfleet Command for allowing me to serve in this capacity. I will do my best to always carry out my duties in a professional and courteous manner. I look forward to working with everyone at Starfleet Headquarters and the rest of the {UFP} as a whole."

It has come to my attention that some members are unhappy with the appointment of Greg Tiberius to this position. In truth I find it somewhat upsetting that my decision made with SFC authorisation is being questioned especially since the names of the applicants and their applications have not been made public.

It is also quite disturbing that someone is being described as an inappropriate choice before he has been given a fair opportunity to even begin his new role.

I feel no need to explain my logic but I am going to anyway.

5 people applied for the position.

3 already held several Department jobs, whilst this did not rule them out entirely I was very keen not to add to the workload of members who already do a considerable about of work on behalf of the {UFP}. There was also the issue that it could serve to put such a member in a very difficult position if they had to say for example chase up their own commanding officer for a task. There would most certainly be a huge potential for conflicts of interest. This I saw as a bad thing. On top of this the Department Aide position although a very nice title is one of the lowest rank billeted positions in the fleet if not the lowest of those currently available. It is a part time job that requires common sense and organisational skills. Having someone that is already a high ranking officer in the role would be a hugely inefficient use of resources.

That leaves 2 people. Both of which have only joined within the last few weeks. Both of which have a great deal of potential and have shown an amazing enthusiasm to progess in the {UFP}. One had a proven track record and has carried out the role before. The other had not. Looking at things objectively I believe I made the right choice. The new member who did not receive the position has instead been rewarded with work on another project.

The Department Aide position is a quite simple administrative position. The core responsibilities are:
- Ensuring contact details for COs and XOs are kept up to date.
- Ensuring Department staff lists are up to date.
- Recording compliance on tasks I have set Departments.
- Ensuring Department social groups are kept up to date.

Personally I think it is a huge dis-service to suggest that Greg Tiberius is incapable of doing that job. If he proves to be unable to carry out his duties then I will have made the wrong choice, I will learn from that error and move on.

Please do not judge people when you do not know all the facts. If after this anyone wishes to discuss this appointment please make sure you come and actually speak to me about it.

I wasn't aware that there was any negative discussion over my appointment. but I assure anyone who is concerned that I will perform my job to the best of my ability. While I will not engange in any sort of argument, I will be more than happy to discuss the matter with anyone who has or had an objection in the spirit of closure an unity. My main goal is the betterment of the {UFP} and always will be.

I look forward to working with everyone in order to make the {UFP} the best it can be.
