Pick my next PC

Getting a new gaming PC, I was going to build one but can't be dealing with the hassle so I'm just going to buy a pre-built machine. Need some advice.

I've been looking exclusively at Overclockers so far since I've been buying components off of them for some time and have always been happy with their price and service. That said if someone can find better value, comparable machines elsewhere I would consider them.

For my budget I would ideally like to be under £1k but can go over so long as it represents relatively good value to spend the extra. I will need to have an OS installed (Windows 7 Home Premium added at a cost of £63.99) I will want some SSD memory (to run Windows from and for storing documents).

Thoughts?

I don't know much about pc's and my brother always builds mine but I did once buy a nice one from here. The reason why i liked it, was because the service was excellent and you could customise everything.

In the end though, this one has been built over the last year and was far cheaper than if I'd have bought it in a shop and has been pretty good.

I can happily supply the spec.

I was going to buy the components and build it myself but I've had a change of heart, I know getting a pre-built or built to order system will cost considerably more than making one myself but I am happy to pay a bit extra so that I don't have to make it myself.

Eclipse are quote close to me and I've just had terrible issues with them. I had to return a soundcard which was supplied incomplete and had some issues with it and it took me 3 trips to get them to take it back!! It was an expensive soundcard as well!

i would highly recommend overclockers.co.uk i recently upgraded my motherboard and processor with them, had a few compatibility issues with my older hardware to begin with, but their customer service desk were really helpful!

I used eclipse computers, and I had a nightmare with the pc. However their customer service was excellent.

Alienware computers are supposed to be the top of the line gaming pc's. They are a bit pricey but available worldwide.

My one is alienware but people say you can get the same quality for less money custom built.... but I must admit my pc knowledge is 0%

Eclipse's website did my head in lol, I tried to build a sytem a few times but found it not particularly user friendly. Alienware do nice gaming PCs but I find you do pay for the brand name.

I think I will most likely end up going with Overclockers, just need to decide on a machine to go for.

You truly do, Chris. After I got my first real paying job, my brother helped me "build" an Alienware gaming pc. It was quite a machine, solid, fast, top of the line... but you pay for all of that.

After that, I just kept up with the specs and found similar setups. Mostly through the Dell XPS systems, as I usually get 16-30% discount on them (depends on time of year or sales).

Alienware is nice, but you are paying a lot for the brand. Like a real Louis Vuitton handbag or something similar? If you are never taking it to lan parties, who cares about the label, right?

It's when people bring their computers with them to someone's house for the purpose of connecting up in a Local Area Network to game.

It would be like playing Frag Night or Armada together at Adster's house. True, you could all play via the internet in your own homes... but playing in the same room where you can look at your opponent or talk to your allies in person just adds a whole different level to the enjoyment.

When you snipe someone and see them look at you over their monitor... it is just different then via teamspeak. You get that human interface factor. My brother still hosts one now and then.

Louis Vuitton are expensive leather goods. Like $900 for a handbag...aka purse.

Oh, to keep on topic... Chris, is this machine you are getting going to be mobile? ie, do you have LAN parties that you plan to take it too? Or anything like that? If you all do that sort of thing in the UK.
