According to Variety Benicio Del Toro has been offered the role of the villain in the next Star Trek film.
Now it may just be me, but it seems like Del Toro would be a great choice to play the infamous Khan Singh, and we already know that the writers have been looking at TOS episodes for inspiration, but what do you all think, will Benicio Del Toro be playing Khan in Star Trek 2012?

I don't know. It's going to be very hard to come close to Montoban's performance as Kahn.

I'll just repost my thoughts from another site.

Personally my top choices to play Khan would be:
Tom Hardy (Eames in Inception, Shinzon in Star Trek: Nemesis)
Michael Fassbender (Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto in X-Men First Class)
Nestor Carbonell (Mayor Anthony Garcia from the new Batman movies, Richard Alpert in Lost)
They are all experienced actors but none of them are really big name well known actors which I think would be a good way to go with casting. All of them come across as intelligent people and intelligent actors yet also have quite a bit of physical presence with the possible exception of Tom Hardy but if he is playing Bane in the next Batman film I am guessing he has either bulked up or you can get the effect right on screen.
Alternatively if you wanted to go with someone more established:
Javier Bardem (Anton Chigurh in No Country for Old Men)
Ben Kingsley (Far too many roles to name)
Hugo Weaving (Agent Smith in Matrix, Elrond in Lord of the Rings)
Much higher profile actors than anyone from the first list. All of them are well known for playing 'bad guys'. Although Khan is very strong one of his best qualities as a 'baddie' is that he doesn't have to raise his voice to be scary. I think all of these actors would be able to play an evil genius like Khan very well.
