Greetings all
I was sat watching re-runs of Voyager last night, cant remeber the episode title, but Chakotay was moaning to Janeway about Tom Paris's performace, and this got me thinking.
Who is the best First Officer?
IMO i think its between Spock and Riker, but I sway more towards Riker, because, he always protects the captain and the ship and looks after the crew, early eps had him look after Wesley Crusher, with words of wisdom and experience.
What do you all think?

My vote would have to be Riker, especially after reading some of the books. He is the kind of First Officer (and Captain) you would like to serve under. He was always trying to do good by and for the crew. I think that showed very well in the series, movies, and books.
Though, Christine Vale comes as a close second in my mind.
Chakotay was ok, but just doesn't seem to measure-up in my mind.
Spock himself was interesting, but as a First Officer, don't think he was too good.
T'Pol, though a first officer, didn't seem to really mesh with the crew overall.
I can't even recall or know who Sisko's First Officer was. He may not have had one, in my mind, as his star out-shined everyone's.

Siskos first officer was Kira Nerys, And I agree With the vote for Riker he was a hands on XO

Why the best First Officer is clearly our very own Starfleet Operations XO
As for on screen it has to be William Riker for the same reasons as previously stated, however Kira Nerys would be a close second.

Wow, thought there may of been a bit more of a debate on this but Rikers coming out on top.
I havent gotten round to reading any of the Titan series books yet, but I will as soon as I finished my current read.
Thanks for all the replys, I like listening to peoples opinions.

Well, I'd have to go with Riker, as he was the most hands-on of the 5, but my favorite is Spock. His cold, plain logic helped Kirk make the most toughest decisions and, HE'S PRACTICALLY A ZOMBIE!!!

I would have to also agree with everyone and say William T. Riker is the best Executive Officer.
