As you may or may not be aware there has recently been a debate on removing the post count feature from the forums stemming from a proposal made in Internal Affairs by Taisen-74656.

Originally Posted by Original Proposal Summary
I feel that the post count under every member's name is not only a completely unnecessary data to be collected, but also encourages spamming and other types of forum behavior not tolerable in most situations.

Post Counts do not accurately measure either experience, wisdom, activity, or creativity by any member. Most of the time, they simply fuel the spamming of important threads, and have prompted many otherwise "fun" topics to be moved into a separate forum that isolates them from the rest of the forums.

If this feature was "optional", and required the SFC to "turn it on", I highly doubt that the post count feature would ever have been established in the first place. Its time to show that its not the amount of posts that counts, but the quality of each and every post.

    The Advantages:
    • May discourage spamming behavior of certain individuals
    • Newer members may feel less intimated by other peoples post count
    • Post count can create competition between certain members
    • Is Implementable in vBulletin
    • Post count isn't necessarily an activity measure of present, since someone with many posts could now be inactive etc
    • "Cleaner" User Information

    The Disadvantages:
    • Some members may feel that their seniority will be infringed upon
    • If the proposal were to be implemented, it would only remove the visibility of Post Count, the actual data could not be removed, therefore not saving space in the database etc.
    • Post count can be a good estimate of member activity
    • The proposal is a secondary solution to the actual problem (spam posts) which is not currently a major problem
    • The UFP Membership is very civilized, making it less of a need to implement such a proposal
    • Activity isn't based on post count, Attitude isn't based on post count and neither is Status

    Other Points:
    • Other techniques can be used instead to decrease the amount of spam posts in the forums such as making certain forums not count towards peoples post count

So then, all {UFP} members are entitled to one vote representing themselves and the vote shall remain private to keep with voting regulations. If later on you decide you wish to change your vote, then please do so, if you're experiencing trouble doing so, contact Internal Affairs.

This vote shall close on Sunday 8th November at 11:00pm GMT.

Please note that this poll does not conclude the outcome of this proposal and that the final decision will be made by Starfleet Command.

I still maintain that removeing the post count will not significently reduce spam on the forums, and would produce far more negatives than positives. I believe IA should simply take a more active role in enforcing the provision of the CoC that prohbits spamming and to take proper action against habitual spammers.

edit.... No, The Post Count Feature Should Remain
the reson for my vote is ok i on a high number for a crewman but i like to get in voled and spend most my days in and out of the forum posts
1- show the activess of that person
2- shows that they are willing to add there views and join in the on that post
3 - this is a gaming site so there are going to be a lot of posts been added
4 - u not going stop spammers cause it dnt matter there all around us
5 - is it just me or are we losing track that this gaming site and peoplecan join in on things regardless of rank , posts etc ?
6- i never joined a forum with out the "how manys that person has done"

sorry if i spoke out turn but it feels like were getting to contraling in the way we post things in this fleet and it dnt feel like a free flowing gaming site anymore Sad and how can you call active members spammers ie me ? just cause i have a high post count does mean i a spammer Smile well we on the issue of removing posts init the main reson why the respect sysem coming into place init that going to mess that up ? as crewman and active one at that this not the right way to go i sorry for my essay on this Sad but it view and this not the way forward for a gaming site Sad

I can only agree with Jenson and babyhead, thou I would support trashing the "how many posts" thread. Such threads only engender useless spam and competition.
