The reason I am making this post, is because there are some problems I am seeing frequently come up right now, and IMO the best way to correct it is to confront it directly.
Some of you might read this, and know exactly what I am speaking about, or you may have an inkling of what I am speaking about - whether you think it applies to you or not, I want you to analyze yourself and as objectively as possible determine whether or not you could be described by the actions below.
1. Extreme negativity - some members of the fleet, for some reason or another, tend to be disagreeing with everything. Nothing is done right in their eyes, and any attempts to fix the problem are not enough. They ignore the avenues open to them to address the issue, and all they do is spread their negativity. This is not acceptable, and is leading to an overly negative environment. >
2. Authority - Some members of the fleet, while having good intentions, are inadvertently causing problems and headaches for other members of the fleet, by giving their opinion in the wrong place and/or time.
For exampleThis example has happened numerous times for numerous positions and departments/divisions):
If SFC, or a CO decide to give someone a position, then they have considered the situation carefully and have determined that that person is the best fit for the position out of all the people who are able to take that job. While you may think you are helping the situation, receiving 10 PMs stating how you feel that person is not fit for the position doesn't help! Even worse, PUBLICLY posting messages in their announcement/congratulations thread is both inappropriate and INSULTING to both the person receiving the position, and the people who took the time to consider all the options and make a tough decision.
If you want to have input on who is chosen for a position, the best way is to send a PM to the person who is making the decision, BEFORE the decision is made, suggesting who you think is best for the position and giving them your support. They may or may not be chosen based on a multitude of reasons, however your opinion will have been heard.
As well, just because someone has screwed up in the past does not mean they should not be given a position to contribute to the fleet - people change, and grow, and we need to be able to forgive their past transgressions, and give them the CHANCE to try again. Of course, they will be closely monitored, and if they are found unsuitable, they would be removed. But because of past mistakes, SFC is not willing to ban people from serving the clan they love for the rest of their careers.
/rant
I hope that you can all understand this, and I hope that you do not take this post in the wrong light. I chose not to name names and situations for a good reason - this happens far too often for me to remember all the times it has happened, and my intent is not to chastise anyone, or to make you feel bad or embarrased in front of your peers about past occurances. My intent is to make sure that we all realise that we might be guilty of doing this at some point, or if not to ensure that we stay mindful of the others around us, and we endeavour to make sure this does not happen in the future.
I also do not want to discourage people speaking their minds - my point is that there is a time and a place, and sometimes we are forgetting that.
Any questions can be directed towards myself, and any appropriate comments (staying mindful of others) may be made in this thread.

I completely agree, all it takes is a second or two to step back.. think.. do I need to be posting this? what will come from my action.. and how could I possible go about this a better way.
If something isn't exactly how you thought it was going to happen, try to work your head around the issue.. see the other side of it and try to realise why it has happened that way.

Well said, hopefully all will see this thread and take it to heart. Personally I think a thread such as this would more than qualify as a fleet wide announcement just to make sure that all parties are pointed to it.

Hence my announcement in the SFC Announcement forum pointing here.
Since this involves a rant / potential embarrasment for members, and really only applies to members, I wanted to put it into a CL3 forum.

I want to make it absolutely CLEAR:
- I do not intend to discourage COs from making their views known, my intent is to ensure that this is done in a tasteful manner.
- The ideal way to do this would be the following:
"Hello Mr. OTHERDIVCO, I noticed that you have made SUCHANDSUCH decision. I am corncerned about this, and I would like to bring my concerns to your attention"
"Why yes Mr. CONCERNEDMEMBER, what can I do for you?"
"Well, I was wondering if you considered REASONFORCONCERN when you made this decision?"
"That did cross my mind when making the decision. Thank you for your input."
"Gladly - I would do
anything for the betterment of {UFP}.
"
- What Mr. CONCERNEDMEMBER did well in this situation is that he was:
- Polite
- Did not treat the CO as if he was ignorant of the situation
- Stated his concern ONCE.
- Did not continue to argue with Mr. OTHERDIVCO after he confirmed his position.
IF the CO does not wish to hear the argument - DON'T persist in trying to tell it to him - he's probably heard it from at least 4-5 others already, and is likely growing tired and annoyed at being constantly reminded that his decision might be unpopular with some people, although that doesn't mean that it was the wrong decision.
If you don't trust the CO, TRUST SFC - we chose the COs, and we have confidence in them. Even so, we keep a close eye on the goings on in the fleet, and if something is going seriously wrong, or a REALLY bad decision is made, we WILL react.
Thanks - I hope this clarifies what I meant in my first post in a more humourous way.

I'm new here and joined because there seemed to be a lot of pride and care in the communications and content presented. There are a lot of smart and talented people organizing this. Hats-off to all
This community will grow with the upcoming STO roll-out in Feb. With the new members coming, it is important to keep it all positive on the forums as to not give a perception of petty public disagreement or disputes.
Looking forward to a good run at STO.
