And as I begun season 2, right after the end of season 1 or course, I wondered if I missed a dozen episodes ? Or at least one ?

I mean, I wasn't expecting the creepy worms from 1x25 to last, I've already seen TNG a couple times, but I didn't recall that 1x26 ended in a cliffhanger, which was completely disregarded in 2x01.

So did I missed somekind of 1x27? Do we have more on the trip to the neutral zone with the romulan's return ?

SOmehow, I had totally forgotten about that before seeing it again

The "worms" from Conspiracy were initially supposed to be the Federations nemesis later in the show, however this was dropped in favour of another "nemesis"... one which we are very familiar with. The Borg! I think it was down to budget issues that they chose to create the Borg instead of following the initial plan.

The question was about the cut between season 1 and 2. so episode 1x26 to 2x01.
1x26 sees Picard and crew investigate the destructions of stations both romulans and starfleet near their respective neutral zone border.
The episode ends in them agreeing to cooperate, you can feel the "to be continued" there, and season 2 kicks off without even a mention of the 1x26.

No real idea as to what happened to some of the crew members as well (Doctor Crusher ? Barely a mention as to what she became)

Oh and can anyone refresh my memory on when they changed uniforms colors ?
Seeing Worf in yellow always surprises me :p

Oh sorry lol . I think perhaps it was because they decided to ditch the worms thing, perhaps they were planning to expand on it starting with season 2 but as they changed the "plan" they no longer thought this was needed. And who knows what they were planning with the uniforms, they got rid of mini skirts for the women too . Sad times! lol!

The parasites were originally going to be the Borg they were first hinted at during "Coming of Age". But yes because of the budget they went with what we now know as the Borg instead. The parasites do return in the DS9 relaunch books which better explores their past and their motives.

The destruction of the outposts along the Federation/Romulan neutral zone was the work of the Borg although they would not be seen until "Q Who?", the crew notices the link whilst examining a planet they encounter that had been devestated in exactly the same manner. Since the Borg had clearly been in to both Federation and Romulan space but had been undetected it explains why there was not much mention of cooperation between the two as they still had no information to go on. During "The Best of Both Worlds" Admiral Hanson does mention Starfleet contacting the Romulans for support against the Borg.

Dr Crusher is mentioned as having left to join Starfleet Medical (it is also mentioned in Nemesis that she is again set to leave the crew to return to Starfleet Medical). In actual fact she left over a disagreement between herself and some of the production staff regarding a difference of opinion on her character development. Maurice Hurley who served as an Executive Producer apparently had a personal dislike of Gates McFadden and didn't think much of her acting skills when he left prior to Season 3 Rick Berman invited her back.

Worf's costume was changed from Red to Gold as he went from being a relief Bridge Officer to Chief of Security for Season 2 following the death of Tasha Yar in Season 1. He was a Lt JG in rank up until Season 3 when he became a full Lieutenant.

In case you were wondering why the uniform colors changed from TOS to TNG, this MA article has good graphics to explain the patterns. Of course it doesn't answer "why" - I'm sure it was an aesthetic issue during production. Here is a good discussion, and apparently it comes down to Data and his skin color matching properly, and perhaps what looked best on Frakes/Stewart? Interesting stuff nonetheless.

I never quite got the skirt/skort/scant thing myself, as I would assume it is worn by choice, and I just dont see how on earth those things would be comfortable.

Although if they ever put them into STO I can totally see making Kains a zap Branigan costume

As for the worms, I thought part of the decision to ditch a large portion of that episode's story was due to how it got lambasted by the network, and even had warning signs placed before the episode aired saying it was inappropriate for most audiences. It seems quite tame by modern standards (Well, the head blowing up is still not half bad) but I can remember there was a bit of a fuss over it then.

Skirts are more comfortable that trousers I think and far easier to put on :p

STO should really allow them for male charaters as well, afterall, the Federation side is suppost to be based on tolorance and equality right? And there is definatly a canon reference for them.

As for the worms, I remember that episode, the head expolsion was pretty graphic but it was done well and as I recall from reading, it won awards.

Closest I've ever come to a skirt was a kilt (And yes there is a difference!) and while it was surprisingly comfortable after a while I'd kill for a pair of jeans.

Also doing any maintenance work wouldn't happen, Jeffries Tubes were not designed with that particular apparel in mind.

I gotta agree with Lazereth, the worms was a neat piece of science fiction, but the Borg was much better!

As for maintinance, I don't think there where any engineers with the skant uniform, they yellow veriation was worn by security and other ops areas I believe. Not sure it really matters though, Jeffries tubes weren't designed with a lot of things in mind, lol.

It's amazing how 80's that screenshot is. For some reason I never really thought about it... but look at that hair!

I suppose you're right: I wear dress pants for work so I love wearing jeans afterwards (So comfy!) and the kilt felt... almost formal...

Plus in TOS the 'skirt' was more of a uniform over a one piece like swimsuit, so I suppose that works all the same. All a matter of what is most comfortable and what shows off the legs the best (Which is important in our Star Trek society where we don't worry about these things anymore )
