So I am still new to STO and the learning curve is a little steep. Its unlike any other game I have played before. I am only a (what I think is) lvl 5. I have an active mission called "The needs of the many" that I am not really sure what I'm doing. I've looked around and can't seem to find much info on this mission. It had me go to a cluster (forget the entire name) but its on the edge of Fed space. I am supposed to deliver goods to a planet in need but there are no planets in the area. I fly around from anomaly to anomaly and sometimes its a space mission and sometimes its a ground mission but never do I have a chance to deliver any goods and the mission remains open. What am I missing?

Hi Hixzen,
That mission is an "Aid the Planet" mission, where you deliver 10 commodities requested to the asking planet. These missions take place in the various "Exploration Clusters" (the zones with anomalies to scan).
Sometimes they are a mission and sometimes they are just data samples. Now, once you accept the mission... the mission itself is COMPLETELY random (got to love random number generators). So you can get a space combat mission, space scanning mission, ground combat mission, ground scanning mision, and finally the "Aid the Planet" mission. (Note that "ground" includes space stations, as it is a ground map).
You just have to get 'lucky' in hoping the anomly you enter is an "Aid the Planet" mission. If you get one, it will tell you immediately under the missioni objectives.
Another note... each exploration cluster can ask for 3 different kinds of commodities. Keeping a healthy stack of these commodities in your "Bank" (not your cargo hold) will save you a lot of headaches. I usually buy 200 of each at the various planets (as I'm pretty frugal).
ESD = buy Shield Generators
Vulcan = buy Medical Supplies and Industrials
Andor = buy Provisions and Comm Satellites

It does! I was thinking it may be pretty random but as I had already spent about 2 hours doing mission after mission I was starting to get a little worried I had wasted a bunch of time doing the wrong thing. Thanks for the info, I'll keep chugging away till I find the aid the planet mission! :mrgreen:
