First First Contact

The crew of the August find an object of unknown origin. They must make "First Contact" with the warp-capable system and find out if the new people are friend or foe. But first, they must pass a few tests...

Captain's Log, SD 52112.130

We seem to have encountered some probe which triggered something horrific - the Undine attacked en masse, only it was almost a duplicate strategy to that of my experiences in 2378 during the Species 8472 (now called Undine) War. They brought in a mothership which I knew how to destroy - drive a starship into the mothership's core and breach our own warp core with maximum power. Reluctantly, I did it with the August - for the second time in my career...

Fortunately, there were no casualties and we found an unknown outpost called Kintana Station. We will use this as our base of operations to figure out our next steps. Although to boot, we just got attacked by an unknown pocked of rogue fighters - more to come on this outcome, but I have full faith in our Marine fighters to take care of them.

Captain's Log, SD52112.203

We have come to find out, much to our dismay in more ways than one could easily count, that the entire series of events in this mission - the Undine/Species 8472 attack, the civil war between the Shin'Ma and the Agiri on Kintana Station, the kidnapping and murder of a certain lovely Agiri woman - were all fake. They were tests by an interdimensional Q-like species... or collection of species.

Evidently, they've been around quite a long time - perhaps they were even around when the Iconians were. They even eluded to the fact of "seeding" this galaxy and dimension, although I still find that hard to believe.

These tests, based on a reading of our computer logs - several of them targeted at me personally - were quite harrowing and yet again my crew performed above and beyond, without hesitation, and without any doubt that they were doing the right thing. We represented the Federation with the utmost courage, pride, selflessness, compassion, and veracity, more than anyone could have expected.

Suffice it to say we passed their tests. What that means in the grand scheme of things no one knows. I have a feeling they won't be back, not during our lifetimes at least. But what they did for us was just as beneficial - we tested ourselves and came through with flying colors. And that's something to be proud of for sure.
