Greetings Fleet. I haven't posted much since joining up, but I'd like to become a bit more active around here and in-game. So what better way then to show off a few hobbies of mine.
When I'm not animating evil I like to build scale models, while vaguely following the directions. I've recently acquired a TNG Enterprise-D fiber optic model at a moving yard-sale for $1.50

Surprisingly it has all the major pieces except one, a quarter inch transparent impulse engine from the saucer section. Shouldn't be too hard to duplicate as I have the other one.
It has all the fiber cables but no box/switch and drill tool. These kits usually come with a small battery tool, but the original owners lost it.
I also like to design circuit boards and play with solder guns. I plan to create my own set of controls so I can cause the lights do some cool effects like full impulse, deflector dish realignment and warp drive flash.
This should be a fun project and I plan to post updates as I continue work on this. I think the firs thing I'll do is figure out how I want to setup the internal circuits and wiring.

Reminds me of my old days of modeling! Plus I remember picking up a kit like this at Hamley's in London when I was 12

Yah, my childhood consisted of models, rockets and building large replicas of medieval siege weapons. I was a mad scientist to say the least. I actually equipped remote activated rockets to a remote control helicopter once. During it's first flight the rocket release failed and it ended up flying into a river, lost forever. Best 300 dollars I've ever spent.

Nice I think I will be following your progress in this thread closely as I have been planning to do the same thing with the Voyager model I got at Christmas...really need to remember to buy the paint.

Heh i got a huge Sovereign and a Galaxy model kit from Hamleys for my last birthday. Haven't put it together yet because i need a load of different colors for it which werent included to make it realistic.

I know what you mean. I think for this model I'll try and create some damage, give it some wear and tear. This will definitely be one of my more detailed models. So far I've laid out the wires over a blueprint and have started drawing up the schematics for the main control board. I'll post some pics once I'm satisfied.
Oh, and on a side note, I was incorrect about the impulse engine piece, both are there, they're just not clear pieces. The red piece is actually a different engine. So luckily I won't have to fabricate that piece.
