Idea: STO Fleet Roster - Member Comments Section

I'm not really sure where to put this, as this isn't really a formal proposal, but more for discussing the idea. I know what my perspective is, but curious if others feel the same.

In Star Trek Online, in our Fleet Roster we have a "Members Comment" section. In this section, a handful of our member base put their forum name (i.e. {UFP}Silynn, {UFP}Dodgers, etc). This used to help identify and connect members with their in-game toon and their forum name.

For the SFO/HoK fleet staff (Event Officers, etc), which I did for a time (before SWTOR came out)... this was a huge help when it came time to write-up our event reports. The reason being, the forum name provided a common identifier as toon names, @account names, etc were often wildly different.

Now with the larger influx of new members, it is especially hard to associate a member's STO character name that we see in UFP-UFPK chat to a {UFP}Forum name. Some names are obvious, but most names are not so.

This brings me to the heart of the topic. Would something like adding one's {UFP}ForumName to the Member's Comment section in the STO Fleet Roster be something the RSO's and SFA's able to add to their Introduction Letter and Star Trek Online academy course?

If there are enough people, especially those it would involve (RSOs, SFA, SFO/HoK staff), that feel this is a valid idea, I will happily draft up a formal fleet proposal where the opinions, merits, implementation, etc can be hammered out in detail.

It'll be up to each individual member to agree to and then carry out the addition to their member comment on the roster but I can't see any harm in asking them to and instructing them how ot do it.

What Collier said. Even though I do not play, it is great to have that information available. This should apply to any game we play - a way to tie in-game "toons" to UFP usernames.

Oh, yes, I know it would be up to each individual to put the comment in.

However, I think at this current time, no one has mentioned it officially to ask each member to do so. Is it in the RSO introduction FAQ PM? Is it in the STO Academy course?

If we aren't asking anyone to do it, the question then is, "Why aren't we?"

If I was a new member and I looked at the fleet roster, saw the 20-or-so names displayed with all of them with comments of {UFP}ForumName, it would be easy to deduce what I should do as well.

It's the same with Teamspeak. Everyone has their {UFP}ForumName. That way we know who is who, for the most part.

Again this is just a thought. Adding the steps/instructions in the initial RSO letter and in the Star Trek Online academy course, in my opinion, would be a logical start.

I think this is a good concept, really when people have different account names to their UFP forum names. Gets confusing. lol

I think it's a good idea and would definitely catch on quickly. The first time I looked at the fleet roster (last month) and saw that several people had done that in the comments section, it seemed like the logical thing to do. So I just added it instinctively. If it became "policy" i'm pretty sure that an in game reminder would get most people to add it without hesitation.

Hmm. I believe back to enforceing this idea. I think it needs to be added to the academy teachings etc. Also , when new cannon fodder join, there asked to do it when they join in fleet in game. Mass emails prepare to receive on Klingon side on this subject.

You know, funnily enough when I first joined the fleet, long before I had done the entrance exam, I saw some folks had put their {UFP} in the members comments (Like what Bill had said) and simply assumed it was policy.

... but now that you mention it, I'm pretty sure it's no mentioned anywhere.

Might be a good idea to put a reminder on the Fleet Invite Sent part: Add the {UFP-UFPK} channel and put your {UFP} name in members comments.

lol I went and did this earlier today, before I read this post.
I FPS and RTS with clans and both use a roster forum/ingame thread for reference, same when we are on TS forum name gets registered.
Now I have a bunch of alts that are not in the fleet that are strictly for farming as I am sure alot of members do but I still use the UFPchat channel. I dont actual play them so see no need to be in the fleet but something to think about to have all alts and main use the system of adding it in and being in the fleet.

If this makes no sense dont blame me, blame the rum and wine.......

I think that it is a good idea, and we have already brought this subject up the past, I believe, and all we can really do is just encourage members to do. However, we may approach this subject again, and see if we can reinforce it once more, thank you for bringing this up again
