Personally, it bugs the crap out of me that they feel it necessary to use flash for so many elements.
There are ways of accomplishing the same things with stuff that fits web standards, work in all browsers, use less bandwidth and CPU and don't rely on a plugin that I have found to be crash prone in just about ever browser that actually supports it.

Please don't refer to us in the third person, it's considered rather rude. In terms of using flash, I understand it's not to everyone's liking for various reasons, but we use the resources/skills etc that we have at our disposal and Reggie did an excellent job putting the animation together for us. If you're having specific technical difficulties with the site, we'd be happy to help attempt to resolve them for you in our Technical Support Desk forum.
These kinds of stylistic additions are treats or bonuses, to bring about a bit of atmosphere and fun when visiting the site for special occasions, something no other clan I've seen bothers doing at least not to our level.

To answer your question Xortox, the environmental conditions was a precursor to the assimilation of the site. For fans of First Contact, you may recall Picard asking what the environmental conditions of main engineering were before they lost contact

Umm, not sure what person I should be referring to. First person is "I/me" second person is "you" Third person is everybody else.

I'm not having any technical difficulties (today), but I still think it's a bad idea to overuse flash. I browse on a tablet when away from my desk, and flash heavy sites cause a problem on that due to the CPU need, not to mention iPads don't have flash at all, and at one point I was having an issue with my flash plugin (luckily it was fixed reasonably quickly), and my browser crashed on Youtube, a few company websites with terrible webmasters, and this site.

I thank Reggie for his work, but I can't help but notice almost all the the flash work is just animation. I understand when it comes to interactivity, flash can be easier to set up since doing that normally requires scripting, but for animations, you can just make a .gif (which I believe can be set not to loop which would work for the assimilation thing) and image links have been around as long as images in websites.

I do applaud the effort, It's nice to see a group that does somewhat different stuff for a while, and from the moment I saw the environmental conditions warning, I was intrigued, and wanted to know what's going on (and I suspected Borg right away)

Indeed I am looking forward to the events, though, I admit, with the Borg thing going on I wasn't entirely expecting a bunch of tholian events.

To clarify, my comment in regards to speaking in the third person was when you referred to us as "they". We welcome feedback and offer/invite avenues to express it directly.
Gifs have their own set of shortcomings, namely a limit to 256 colours, so unfortunately aren't always ideal. We're always looking at ways of improving our facilities and fortunately we have access to quite a few talented people in different fields. Using HTML5 in the future springs to mind, but unfortunately I'm no coder so I wouldn't be able to elaborate on that particular score
