Well, after a few days of thinking and so on I still haven't made a decision. My problem is that I would like to do more for the fleet but the positions which are open or the Departments themselves don't really fit to me because of following reasons:
    • I'm only a good organisor and not a planner
    • Academy... I played too long ago and still have to adapt to the new features in STO
    • Diplomatic... like I said I'm a good organisor but to plan a cooperation with other fleets and so on would be difficult for me
    • Fleet Network News. No word needed. I cant write news

What I could do would be following, not sure if it is needed or not:
    • Organising things. I'm quite good at administration forums for example (PHPBB in that case) also due to my military career I'm quite good at leading soldiers and I can adapt it to other situations.
    • Due to the previous fact I'm also quite good at analysing situations and make decisions on it if I have options availible. In the case currently thats not the case :I
    • Roleplay. Simple said I'm a good roleplayer but more for direct action things like ingame or via IRC clients. Roleplays over forums or with the USIMM system you use here are not my favorite and I'm quite bad with them.

Now the problem is, you dont make any ingame roleplay and the other things like organising are probably for more experienced members and also trusted members. I dont want to leave the fleet but its quite a dilemma for me....

I'll respond to two points to that rang a bell in my head. I, too, wanted to help out at greater levels when I returned to the fleet last year. There was searching and some conversations with some of the shiny folks, but eventually the position I am in came open and I applied and got it. So in a way, it's just a matter of trying to be a good community/gaming resource - helping newcomers, chiming in on the forums, etc - and just waiting for a dept/div position to come open when they need it.

And to prepare for that time, I'd advise taking a few Academy command courses (http://ufplanets.com/showthread.php?...se-Information) and getting more familiar with the fleet that way. You've only been here 10 days, so I'd give it some time to absorb.

Roleplay. Simple said I'm a good roleplayer but more for direct action things like ingame or via IRC clients. Roleplays over forums or with the USIMM system you use here are not my favorite and I'm quite bad with them.
I can relate to this. For live stuff, I prefer something more graphical, like Second Life or even STO/SWTOR/EF/etc. So I'm kind of the opposite of you. That's why I pushed to get the simms started (restarted in a way) so that people would have that non-live, text-only, web-based roleplay option. And hey, a couple handfuls of us are having a blast.

You might try checking into the Harriers division (http://ufplanets.com/forumdisplay.ph...riers-Squadron) as they do RPG-X live RP stuff, and interest in that is growing once again. I don't see us pursuing anything like an IRC/live text-based RP when we have most of the bases covered, but I think you'll find a niche somewhere.

And in the end, after all this, maybe you'll be master of STO and become one of our fine officers there and this discussion will become moot. Smile

Enjoy your stay here, and welcome once again to one of the best Trek groups out there!

Maybe there was a misunderstanding. With direct action I didnt meant just the text itself I meant the whole thing with avatars moving around and so on. Like the RPG-X is doing it, just in STO. I was in a roleplay fleet in the past and it worked quite well.

Then start it up here. Smile Others have toyed with the idea, just not enough interested parties. But start a forum thread in the SFO area and see if people would be interested in doing things like this. We already have a couple projects that have spawned out of STO (a web comic and a machinema effort), so this could be another one. We always welcome user-driven efforts like this!

Not sure if I should enlist for Command Course and so on after 10 days together with the described problems. :I Sure I could try to set something up RPwise in STO itself but that requires time and a bit planning... although RP planning like a plot or something is a thing I am able too... but not events

If you have an RP idea within STO, you can get with an STO Event Officer (SFO) or Battle Officer (HoK) to work something out and they can handle all the in game stuff and you handle the RP stuff. I'm sure there shouldn't be a problem there.

What would it hurt to take at a minimum the Command course? Some new members even take everything they can just to knock them out. Start with the Command Course, and get it out of the way. Worst case is you get through, promoted to Ensign, and just play games. No harm to ANYONE there.

And in fact, we would encourage people to do this if they want to now or eventually help at any sort of administrative level in the fleet!

Actually I showed interest for the IA Staff member already, just need to do the IA course for it. But as Away Team Leader/Battle Officer... I'm a organizer, not a planer Wink

And regarding your armed force comment. I'm still in armed service, not in the UK but in the German Army
