CHAPTER 1-A
A Rocky Relationship
As she braced to pushed, "Why do you insist that I have the baby here?!" The anger in her voice was very evident.
He said, "This is where my ancestors gave birth! Have A little damned respect!" He was nearly enraged in her direct insolence. Jumak was a proud Rajellian, standing tall at the very mention of his race. He was a very imposing man & his eyes had constant contempt in them for other species, including his beloved, Ami, who herself was human.
Compared to Jumak, she was small & frail, where he was tall, muscular & very angry.
"Oh God," she said as she bore down, "it's coming!" Jumak called for the attendant. "It is beginning." he said as she pushed down with all her strength. The attendant grabbed the baby as it was being pushed. He wrapped a ceremonial cloth around the baby as the berthing completed. The attendant carried the baby to Jumak & said, "Jumak, son of Navzak, as is tradition, I bless your son with the rays of Raj & christen him as Malak, heir to the throne of Rajelli!"
Jumak took his new born son in his hands. He looked in his face & became enraged. He handed the baby back to the attendant, drew his blade & with one swift blow, he slain his beloved. "I denounce that thing as my son!" he cried. Jumak dropped his sword & ran out of the sacred berthing cave.
The attendant followed Jumak out of the cave & into the hot, lifeless desert & said, "The laws are very clear my liege. To denounce the Heir of Raj is puni-" "I KNOW THE F&$@ING LAWS!" He yelled, "I will accept him as my heir, but I will NOT accept him as my son so long as the sun burns in the sky!!"
The ultimate insult in Rajellian culture was to denounce one's heritage & to be born a half-breed was an even greater shame. The attendant walked back to the berthing cave with the young Malak, setting him in a plain crib. She turned to the slain body of his mother & said, "I am sorry that I could not control him. Forgive me, dear princess." The high priest of Raj entered the cave from the back. He was a tall, slender man, wearing a simple robe with a gold & silver hem.
"He cannot stay on Rajelli Jal," he said in a soft voice, "he is in grave danger here from his father." Jal bowed her head & said, "I know. Jumak has become mad with power ever he ascended to the seat of crown prince 5 years ago. He was never like this." Jal then angled her face to the Priest. "Maybe," she said, "he can live with his grandparents on earth." The Priest nodded. "I shall arrange a transport for the two of you." he said. "The two of us?" Jal said in a curious tone.
The Priest nodded his head & said, "You are to watch over his upbringing on earth. Guide him to the right path of life. Kneel, Jal." She knealed on one knee. The priest pulled out a rather plain necklace. "I adorne you with the royal chains that represent our loyality to the prince. You are now his royal attendant Jal, daughter of Belox." He helped Jal stand. "Go, now with Prince & flee to earth."
Jal took the young Prince & before she left with him, she said, "My Prince, I shall lay my life down for you from this day onward." She walked out of the cave & into the sacred desert. The priest followed her out to the mouth of the cave. "Go in Peace," he said, "our prince of salvation."
