Greeting
I just seen this on the BBC News Site
Development plans for 300 places around the world are being modelled in Minecraft so residents can help decide how the locations will change.
Called Block by Block, the programme is part of a collaboration between Minecraft-maker Mojang and UN Habitat.

With all the technology we have, rendering capabilities and whatnot, we decide to go with Minecraft to show people what their future homes will look like! It's kind of funny, but at the same it's a pretty cool initiative, especially if they really allow the residents' feedback to change the outlook of the urban areas.

Yeah, I find it kind of surprising as well. I guess supposedly the idea is that due to the blocky nature of things, it is actually much easier to model using minecraft than more precise methods?

I think the main thing is that it's simple and really easy to share and update. Anyone can use it and share their ideas with others in minutes. It also doesnt require a powerfull computer.

Interesting indeed. I had to chuckle first before considering the use of Minecraft in such a manner. I would have to agree that it's probably the most feasibly simplest method to put in place a virtual tour that people can simply come in and modify. Again, interesting.
