Hello fleet.
I am currently in the process of figuring out solutions to launch STO with cryptic support staff. However it is going fairly badly - we have been at it about 2weeks or so and so far he just copypasted some faq stuff to me
Knowing that Trekies have prototype plasma torpedoes in their garage I assumed that maybe someone will be able to help me with it.
So the problem started with ''changes to the new romulus patch'' wich hit the server in 29.12. after that I have succesfully patched the game, but when I press ''engage'' the game crashes on the launch screen.
As far as I know I changed nothing between my last time and the patch. The new patch that went online on 6th did nothing to help.
Now I have tried everything from a faq in support section of cryptic (force verifying, proxy patching, on demand patching, restarting internet and pc, checking firewall and antivirus, reinstaling the game |6x already some times trough steam to spice thing up - on steam it now states that I have played game for 10hours - that is 10hours of patching, force verifying and what not|. I also tried to instal the game on different pc. The problem is my main pc is the only thing that can handle the game, so I cant know for sure, wheter it works there, but after copying it back to my pc error remains.
I have outdated drivers BUT I have been able to play with them so far and the reason why I dont update is because it messes up my videos (even those of low quality suddenly begin to lagg). Nevertheless I have updated the drivers and newly insted of crashing on cryptic screen the game claims I have unsupported videocard and then pops error about d3d. Now d3d seems to be the overal problem with the new version of my drivers so wheter you help me with them, or launching the game on old is no matter to me.
Usually I would weather the storm, but with the event in place, I feel like when I finally log in all the cool kids are going to fly breen ship and I wont be able to make it, despite clocking larger number of hours (according to steam XD)
So yeah any help will be apreaciated. I will include DxDiagx64 log and hijack log so you can look at pc and maybe find something. Cryptic tech support claims there is nothing wrong with them. Oh great now I cant attach stuff And I dont know how to do that spoiler stuff. OMG am I having a good day. I guess if anyone want to help I can mail it to them, or you can give me instructions on how to post it

Hi Georc,
I recently had a very similar problem on my PC following the romulus patch. Mine was caused by Teamviewer being open.
You could try to disable any other programs that are currently running in the background.
I hope this helps, also you could try hosting those logs on google docs or dropbox for us to have a look over.

I dont have teamviewer. I have also tried launching the game when nothing else was runing. Well nothing else, unless it reacts to windows gadgets...

Yay me if it works. I put there also screens of errors I had. The errpt stuff is with outdated drivers the new errors is after updating drivers.
I also uninstaled pando media booster as tech support staff suggested - did not help.
DirectX is updated.

You can try either of the following (i used this methods in the past when patches messed up my launchers):
1. http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/sh...d.php?t=378891 << i recommend bookmarking this!
2. Copy the "Cryptic Studios" folder form your 2nd pc/laptop where you installed it over the same folder on main pc. This helped me when one of the previous patches simply refused to finish properly (kept downloading 5+ gig of data but not patching it into the game... sigh). This is just a faster way of simply reinstalling the whole game.
3. Re-install the game on the pc. This it the above should fix any "broken" files, assuming your problem is from corrupt game files.
4. This is a long shot, but give it a try anyway: Make a new user on your pc and try to run it from there.
Hope any of this helps, it always seem to have worked for me, but my problems were strictly launcher or patch related, never with game crashing.

I tried stuff on that forum. Replacing launcher didnt help, renaming .patch folder didnt help either. I tried instaling it on my second pc to see if it works, however there it crashed due to low capabilities of the pc. I copied the folder home, but error still remains. I then copied my folder to another laptop where it went past cryptic screen, but crashed at Star Trek symbol again, weak laptop. I dont think issue is with the game data, but then again I dont think there should be an issue at all.
Creating new user didnt help either.
I am currently scanning the link you suggested as maybe someone tries something in replies.

Have you tried uninstalling reboot to safe mode then run CCleaner to clean all the last bits of the previous install. Then reinstall?
I try and keep a relatively up to date copy of the installer located on my storage drive since re-DLing x amount of GB sux.
Have you tried installing 1 version lower of drivers? Using a driver cleaner as you uninstall? Again done via safemode?

I always try to run ccleaner and dllfixer when I have any problems. I tried running them after uninstal (and now that you have suggested it in safe mode) but it doesnt help.
As to drivers. I have complicated relationship with them. As I said before the newest patch breaks everything even more. Thus I have tried using driver sweeper (it only works for me in safe mode) before instaling new drivers. Now acording to DxDiag I have AMD Radeon HD 6650M so if I were to download driver it would be for 6xxx series, right? But if I use autodetect it downloads for 4xxx series. I tried both versions with driver sweeper and ccleaner but it just breaks more and fixes nothing.
I have been playing fine with my current drivers. I am willing to try one version lower, but I dont know for what series to download for. I am knowledgable like that.
Also it feels like (judging by the amount of time I have reinstaled and patched the game) that the problem is in fact that something else is interfering with the game, but I have no idea what it is. Can someone make any sense of that hijack.log those are all proceses that are running on my pc, if I understand it correctly, and I am sure there has to be some leftovers or something I have instaled, because thought it sounded cool, but forgot to uninstal.

Status update:
So we tried with Burtonshaw to look at the issue(by which I mean he tried and I was sitting by dressed as cheerleader).
The game still wont launch on my current drivers and updating to new ones couses my display device to become unrecongnizable. I have contacted AMD with the driver issue.
If however someone has any idea how to make STO work with my current state, please share. I am open to all suggestions.

Hi Georc,
From all of the above, it seems that you have done everything humanly possible with your current system.
So this may not sound as drastic as it seems, but have you considered a complete wipe and fresh reload of your operating system?
Perhaps, if you have a spare hard drive, even a 40 GB one... install your OS, configure drivers, DXD, and then install STO. Patch it up and give it a shot. It is the only way to be certain that any residue file or registry entry is not causing the issue. It is a timely option, but might be better than waiting for a reply from AMD/Cryptic.

I thought about it, but quickly dismissed that option.
I am on the only pc that can handle STO in my house, the drive is split so I wont be losing that much stuff, but still, if I consider all the stuff I would have to(rather want to)install a new... its just depresing.
I dont think it would be an issue this time, but I remember once that my OS refused to start and I had to reinstall it several times for it to finally rot in...
I am just too scared and discuraged for that.
Would rather wait for AMD reply, since Cryptic either gave up, or is compiling rather creative response.
At this point its only STO and while I am a bit sour about missing on event I am still hoping that at some point it would patch itself to function.

In edit to my last post is the answer
I was at first reluctant to reinstal windows, but then I decided it would help with some other stuff (like cleaning I am very messy with my pc).
So I reinstaled windows, and it worked.
As to Cryptic... they claimed that dump files dont help them at all. First they suggested all the usual stuff like reinstaling game, drivers etc. At some point they just started recycling old ideas, like literally two of the replys I got were the same.
I think its the kind of error that they dont know how to fix for sure yet.
