Not to mention the end of Nemesis (*shudder*) left the Romulans with a good taste of Picard/Enterprise/Federation. Now with STO and the newer movie/comics that all goes to poo it seems, but still, there were hints. And their civilization has had much understanding, especially if you count soft-canon materials like the RPG, which had an entire Romulan book set (which I highly recommend just for reference if you like Romulans).

same could be said about klingons, but if you follow lots of his work, such as andromida, he has a special place for those who have lost everything they held dear. Romulans fall in that category. They deserve the chance to rebuild, ally with one who may have been enemies.

The only real differences is that Klingons are part of the universe created by Roddenberry since the beginning. Kirk meet them and hated them as they killed his son. They were in war, then they have been allied for long.
Worf was part of the Enterprise of Picard and of DS9 of Sisko. He even got his own ship.
Martok has made alliance with the federation to fight the Dominion.
So Klingon to be playable is an evidence.

I have read in the Ask Cryptics monthly that they want to increase the kdf with a real story episode and not the few ones that exist.
Maybe it will be this. But it seems also that STO is one of the few MMO that has only 2 playable faction and it's not enough for the mmo market.

So probably it will be the romulans.

I guess it's possible to have the Hirogen in with a Romulan faction. It depends how they do it, whether if we play as D'Tans Romulans or as the Tal Shiar under Empress Sela, in which case they have a treaty with the Hirogen. I don't think the Breen or Cardassians would be a good idea for a race, and Dominion will never happen as we already have a ton of their ships in game through the lock box system.

Under D'Tan or Sela, I don't care... just gimmie that D'Deredix!!!!!! Would also love to get the Warbird scout, and perhaps a retro TOS skin for it... could do a "Balance of Terror" inspired Foundry mission using TOS assets!

There's really only three ways this can possibly go. Being apart of the Romulan Star Empire and working towards rebuilding the Empires might. After much hardship and trials, reunification of the Romulan Star Empire with the people of New Romulus after Sela takes it back over which royally pisses off the Klingons (hm...).

Or the one I like the most, starting off as part of the Romulan Star Empire, but eventually changing sides to the New Romulus Republic. This way, you also keep the New Romulus Reputation there because its you trying to prove your worth and loyalty to New Romulus after originally kicking its ass.

Just to toss in an idea in that I've not see anyone mention anywhere on the whole Romulan speculation thing, what if the "March Beneath the Raptor's Wings" is the return of the Debrune? (the third Vulcan splinter group that fissioned off from the Romulans)

Would nicely tie together TNG - Gambit, and the Hawel Ruins on New Romulus...
Given the way STO's been hinting for long-term plot, they would probably blame their vanishment and reappearance on the Iconians, too, though on second thought, STO's been big on time travel lately.

Have them join up with the New Romulus chaps and bring some allies from the wherever-the-heck they were, and you're set up to make a Romulan faction for Season 9 or later, as was suggested by Cryptic before.

I think they've all but confirmed the Romulan faction for not-Season 8. Whether it's a full faction or a minifaction is really the only part I question. But honestly, I'm almost more excited for the UI updates ThomastheCrypticCat is working on than for the Romulans

The Romulans have good ships, but not as many in canon so Cryptic will have to invent come.... and looking at their previous attempts it is questionable how good they will be.

I will possibly be moving over to Romulans since its the one faction I've been waiting to see appear for a long time in STO as playable. Ya I know I'm jumping the gun but seriously its the reason my name is Spectre its because I just love cloaking technology and many other things associated with them.

As well as who the leader would be. The STO Infographic shows that Ms. Crosby also did voice work for Sela. Since she was not present in the Anniversary Episode, Sela must coming along somewhere else fairly soon.

She might also return... GO SELA!!!!

I love the Rommulans! I would be happy if they are becoming a own faction or merge with a faction. Both would be really cool. But I do love the idea !
