Hailing Frequency is currently holding a competition which includes nominating the best fleet/guild of 2009.

When informed about this by Zach, he mentioned that voting for your own fleet is highly discouraged, but allowed.

TO ALL UFP MEMBERS:

- Although other fleets may choose to disregard the spirit of the competition, I think I speak for the majority when I say that I feel {UFP} stands for something better.

{UFP} MEMBERS - PLEASE *DO NOT* NOMINATE OR VOTE FOR {UFP} FOR THE TOP STARTREK CLAN/GUILD AWARD. DOING SO MAY RESULT IN A BREACH OF THE CODE OF CONDUCT.

SECTION 1 - GENERAL CONDUCT
1. All {UFP} Members must respect the Code of Conduct/Policies and Procedures at all times.

2. All {UFP} Members must respect and obey the chain of command. Members should comply with any reasonable requests made by superiors.

7. All {UFP} Members must represent the {UFP} to the best of their ability and take no action that could bring the {UFP} into disrepute.

SECTION 12 - COC/POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
1. All terms of the Code of Conduct/Policies and Procedures must be adhered to by all members at all times unless compliance would result in the breach of another aspect of the Code of Conduct/Policies and Procedures.

2. Any action taken that does not technically breach the Code of Conduct/Policies and Procedures but does go against the spirit of the Code of Conduct/Policies and Procedures may still result in action being taken against those involved.

If you would like to vote for another clan or guild of your choice, please feel free.

As Lotus Fleet is Hailing Frequency's fleet, SFC feels that it is inappropriate to advertise one or the other on another fleet's forums, especially advertisements asking for donations to the fleet/parent organization. As such, this unauthorized advertisement has been removed.

Unfortuantly I fear this is the sort of contest that although meant well will not work out well. I don't want to sound disrespectful to Hailing Frequencies I think in theory it is a very good idea and I obviously support any effort to improve and develop the Star Trek gaming community.

Although perhaps not meant as it, this is going to end up a popularity contest where people can vote for themselves which I think the majority will do. In that case what has really been won? It trivialises the event and I think robs it of its meaning.

The winner will most likely be the fleet that just gets their own members to vote for them. The rules state this is disapproved of but since it is actually allowed and it will likely be a factor in who wins then it would actually seem to be encouraged since there is a reward at the end of it.

I think this is a case of something being a lot better on paper than it turns out to be on practice. The idea is a good one but people will ruin it.

When there is an award or awards that are voted for by peers who can not be in it for their own benefit where the decision is based on measurable criteria then I think something like this could really work and is something that people can really be proud to earn.

EDIT Sorry forgot to mention although did give Respect points for Crystal Dayra for 3rd Fleets stance on this.

After consideration, next year, we will be removing the "Best Guild/Fleet" category, but needing most of our other award categories.

If anyone from UFP or 3rd Fleet has any nominations to make in our numerous other categories, Nominations close tomorrow so please get them in by tomorrow!

Zach I'm sure you could still run that sort of competition. I'm sure there is something workable if you want to do something. Perhaps instead though rule out voting for your own fleet and perhaps make them specific categories rather than just an overall best fleet. If these awards are just annual you do have time to see if it is possible to do what you wanted with this without there being any of the issues that have been raised.
