Was not sure where to post this, so apologises if in the wrong place and I was not sure who to contact in the fleet.

What is UFP using for hosting/VPS etc, with who/how much is it costing/what control panel etc.

Happy for PM private if you think this is private matter.

I ask as I am considering my own VPS/Dedicated server with quite a large amount of spare overhead.

We're on a dedicated server from OVH. They're really cheap when compared to other hosts, but it comes at the cost of quality and availability of support. Their Kimsufi line of servers (which we're on) comes with only hardware support. All software issues are self-managed.

OVH has a really amazing control panel which allows you to do a lot without needing to contact support like doing a hard reboot of the server or installing a new operating system.

On our server, we use cPanel as the backend to our LAMP stack.

I'm with a British firm called Heart and they have been excellent for the Hosting packages of a few project's I have had to run. But I am getting to the point where I have so many packages and my own needs to move to dedicated or VPS.

I was not sure what the situation was with UFP and maybe I could help somehow as I had intended on a high spec machine.

What is the specs of the machine with OVH?

Our package is no longer available, but we're on an Intel Xeon W3520 @ 2.67GHz with 24GB of RAM.

Can i ask how much it is costing a month to run UFP etc or just ICT costs?

Our server + cPanel costs in the region of £80 per month.

I take it would be an almighty pain to move you to somewhere cheaper/better?

We've shopped around - we've found this to be the best price with regards to what we get. We're looking at stepping down to a lower package when our contract expires later this year.

I am currently in the process of upgrading my personal server at home, which I hope to have up and running within the next few months. To which end, I would happily host an extra virtual server to handle back-up services, enabling the continued use of some services if and when the main server is not operating.

Basically they use a control penel called CPanel to control the web server.

Thanks for the offer, Burton. We did infact invest in a small, cheap server to serve as a backup after the first incident. We hadn't finished preparing everything to allow us to quickly enable some services. The page you saw while the website was down was in fact on our other server. Our host has some cool functionality via its control panel that allows us to reroute traffic via a certain IP from one server to a different one nearly instantaneously.

My friend and I rented a dedicated server from OVH that was hosted in France we recently switched to a host here in the US, but we had no problems with either the hardware or customer service. I would recommend them if you are looking for a server in the UK/France area.
