Internet Service Providers in the US

Anyone living in the USA mind helping me out with picking my new ISP? Living in the DC area and currently trying to choose between Comcast and Verizon. Thanks for your help.

Well if I had the choice between Comcast and Verizon, I would pick Verizon over Comcast any of the week and twice on Sundays (That's assuming you're talking about Verizon Fios.) I'm actually waiting for Fios to make it to my area even though I'm very happy with Optimum Online.

Just be sure to compare the different online packages. IE the download/upload speeds.
Optimum Online basic package is 15 down and 1.5 up. For an additional 15 bucks a month I have the 50 down and 8 up.

Compared to Verizon Fios who are currently advertising 50/25 Mbps as part of their basic triple play package.

Verizon might be a bit more pricey upfront, but in the long-run it will pay off.

Avoid Comcast like you would an angry and agitated grumpy 300-pound chimpanzee. Note, they tend to maim, meaning they rip or bit off any bodily extremities above and below the waist. Just don’t get into that cage…

Hmmm ok. No FIOS here either, but if Comcast really IS that bad, I'll just learn to deal with the slower speeds.

If it's not Fios then chances are all Verizon is going to offer you is something close to DSL speeds (that's what they offered me, until Fios makes it to my area). So yea, you'll probably be better off with Comcast (for now).

If you ever have problems, Comcast has HORRIBLE customer service. I'd go with Verizon.

As a former representative of AT&T (which by the way NEVER get internet service from AT&T) I would definitely go with Verizon any day. As some have stated, they are more expensive up front but in the long run it pays off. In addition the service is way better.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. Definitely going with Verizon, it seems. I'll just hold out until they get the FIOS up and running in my area.

Do you have an existing contract running with Verizon for your cell phone? If so, I'm pretty sure you are able to bundle them together for a small discount.

Being an existing AT&T U-Verse customer I have to advise to avoid them at all costs! Every promise empty, the worst customer service I've had the displeasure of dealing with, countless hidden charges, etc. Can't wait to kick them to the curb.
