I just recently started PC Gaming and now as I dedicate more of my free time to STO, I realize perhaps it's time that I update my Keyboard and Mouse. However there are so many different types to choose from, I figured I would be better off asking the UFP community what they are currently using.

    I'm currently using;

Keyboard: Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000
Mouse: Wireless Dell Cherry Red Mouse (I initially purchased to using with my laptop.)
    Headset: N/A

What does everyone here at UFP use/recommend?

I personally would never use wireless because they tend to run out of batteries at the worst of times, and the mice are heavier because of the batteries.

For keyboards medium to high keys are preferred over laptop keyboards with low keys and if you're serious into gaming you might want to get a keyboard with macro keys.

As for mice, which kind of person are you?

Nice graphic, Begotten. I think I'm a fingertip guy, but then I always have a wrist pad as well.

I typically use standard mice and keyboards for gaming, but then again I am like the opposite of "hardcore". I tried a joystick with STO and that was basically a disaster, especially when going to a non-Joystick computer or upgrading ships and all my icons/quick keys were off. Things have undoubtedly improved (they built joystick support directly into the game shortly after I stopped playing, I believe - yes that was a while ago), but anecdotally from an old fart, I'd avoid a joystick.

Anyways, just a few pennies of input.

I love my Logitech G11 keyboard, its a little on the expensive side but the 54 extra Macro buttons and media controls make up for it. As for a mouse, I go though about 4 mice per year so don't spend that much on a mouse because of that as long as it is comfortable for you to use I won't get one with all the bells, whistles and buttons.

I use a G600 for STO and love it, but I am a palm guy with large hands. I use a Hyper keyboard right now simple for the alu finish. I have a few other KB sitting around a few CM storm, G19,merc stealth..
The CM's are about the best for typing/using ( I have blues in mine since they were a custom run for staff) But the Merc is about the easiest to use when gaming at night, backlite keys and the larger "wasd" bloom.

I really like logitech's software over others though, the macro setup for both the mouse and keyboard are top-notch, sadly I dont like the feel or look of the g19 for my desk.

I did mod my Merc though awhile ago but yeah number pad sux.

{UFP}Begotten: It's actually because of an earlier experience with my mouse that was the catalyst for this thread  I don't mind the the weight, but I feel it's time to get a more appropriate mouse, one that is full size with programmable buttons since the one I have now was only intended for casual use for my laptop.

As far as what kind of mouse person I am, I have no idea. LOL. My current mouse is smaller than most gaming mice, to give you an idea if I line it up with the tip of my middle finger the end of the mouse rests slightly above the heart line. So yea it's a pretty small mouse. But if I had to pick, I would say I'm somewhere between a finger tip and palm person. I can't imagine myself "clawing" a mouse, especially during a game.

{UFP}Wixiban: The Logitech G11 is a sweet keyboard. I like all the extra macro keys on the side. Most of the gaming keyboards I've seen just the one row.

{UFP}Vox: That mouse looks like a transformer! But I can really see the benefits of being able to adjust almost every aspect of the mouse.

{UFP}SuperGrover: Wow! That keyboard is a beast. I especially like how it has an extra section to the left. It's almost like having a Nostromo strapped to your keyboard. Wicked Nice!

I know that mechanical keyboards are the norm for gaming, but I think all that clicking noise would be a bit annoying at night when others are trying to sleep, LOL. I've been looking at the Alienware Tract X Keyboard as it can function for everyone and I can spend some some of the leftover cash on the mouse as it seems to me there is where I'm going to get the most bang for my bucks.

    I use a Logitech G930 wireless headset:

My keyboard is a Logitech G510 gaming keyboard. The LCD display is useful for showing who's talking in TeamSpeak as well as some in game data and the programmable macro keys are very useful.

Finally, I use a Razer Mamba, wireless gaming mouse. It's very responsive and, like the Logitech products, comes with programming software.

As for wireless peripherals running out of power at inopportune moments, this is the 21st century! Both my mouse and the headset are rechargeable and able to be plugged in. If they do run down after many hours of use, just plug them directly into the power cord and you're immediately up and running again. Smile

Like Mattix, I have a G510 keyboard. I play on my lazy-boy though, with my gaming rig hooked up to the big screen tv, so mostly I use a Razer Nostromo gamepad, with a logitech bluetooth trackball that I place on the arms and a Creative Wrath wireless headset.

{UFP}Mattix: The Logitech G510 gaming keyboard looks pretty sweet. I like the TeamSpeak feature as I'm hoping to get more involved in fleet events.

{UFP}Rina: I think I need to get myself a lazy boy, that sounds like a great way to play, LOL. L How do you like the Razer Nostromo gamepad? Have you mapped it out?

I have a Belkin N52te, same design as the Razer, just with a razer sticker on it. I have set up macros on it and it. The macro software IMO isnt as good as Logitechs for ease of use but still it is more than capable just not as intuitive. Again IMO.
The 2 problems I had with it was/is: My hands are to large for it,, if you have larger hands you might find that there isnt really a comfortable position no matter where the palmrest is positioned. Second the keys I found were pretty stiff and lackluster, think cheap keyboard keys and you wont be far off. I also didnt like the stroke of them either felt completely unnatural for the device.

Yeah it fits my giant mitts really well. I'm fairly comfortable with the macro capabilities. I have different profile for ship and ground combat, and it's quick and easy to swap between them. I need to do a little more messing about though, I'm not too happy with where I have my TS trigger set.

I can't recommend the lazy-boy enough though, that plus the huge tv is really nice. I have my keyboard on one of those little laptop tables so I can swing it in and out to type.
