Did anyone get to experience this game during this weekend's Beta (phase 3)?

From what I read about this MMO back in 2010, the game I got "addicted" to this weekend is a very different game. Visually and audibly stimulating into the "Amazing" range. It is incredibly immersive to say the least. At least with the story that involves you.

The game mechanics were MMO-standard. Much like Guild Wars 2 and SWTOR in regards to your abilities. An interesting or neat thing is that every 5 levels in your "job", you revisit your profession's "Guildmaster" and get involved in a little mini-story quest which unlocks a class ability.

Although there is no voice overs, I actually didn't mind at all. As the animations, facial expressions, emotes just blew me away.

All in all, I have some high hopes for the final release.

I've been playing the Beta for about a month and a half now. I have to say it's pretty impressive. It's the little things that I seem to notice that are kinda awesome. Like when you equip rings, earrings, or neck pieces; they actually show on your character!

Some things I wish had a voice or something different. Like answering a question with just nod and a smile? Kinda goofy when it happens repeatedly. When you give an item to an NPC or receive something (a good example is right at the beginning after the peddler gives you something), you just hold your hand out for a few seconds and then pull it away without anything actually showing up in your hand. Same thing happens in SW:ToR, but the camera only shows the upper part of your body so you don't see the hands. At least it's not visible there so you can imagine it.

I actually finished what I could during the Beta since I had reached about level 20 and then hit an artificial wall and couldn't actually proceed any further in my class quest line during the Beta. I actually liked the wall since it prevented me from doing everything and spoiling the rest when the game actually released.

I ended up trying out the dye system (which is actually pretty simple once you find the vendor in Ul'dah) and doing a bunch of dungeons with the group finder. This was also easy to get into, as there are only 4 people in the party and since I was a Conjurer, I just had to spam Cure and the occasional Medica. (For me, the rotation looked like 4,4,4,4,5,4,4,4,4. lol)

I already pre-ordered the Collector's Edition so I'll be set once it releases, but I am looking forward to Phase 4, since it will be open beta and there should be many more people to run around Eorzea with.

In closing, I'll just leave an image of my Conjurer (Lydia Ballantyne), taken a couple of days before this phase finished.

It does. It varies between $10-$15 a month depending on which tier you want.

Since they have to ship the order, I hope they plan on having a grace period for people who are waiting for their copies to show up.

Yes! I found this too be simply amazing. What I equip is what is shown... that level of detail is something I am just not used to. Besides, that I was thoroughly blown away by the high quality of the art, graphics, and just everything visual. The audio, from the sounds your character makes during various emotes/actions to the background music were all top notch.

Yet, when I got into the dungeon, things flowed very well. The boss fights and encounters in the first three dungeons were all well done. My favorite fight was the one with the giant green blob.

I'll be one of those people running around in the open beta. I like trying new things. Though I probably won't continue to play since it will require a subscription I bet.

The Beta will certainly give you that 'taste' of the game. The subscription, I don't know how long it will last. With half the servers in Japan and the other half split between NA/EU, I'd be curious if the subscription base will maintain.

Personally, I don't mind the subscriptions. I look at it this way... for 50 cents a day, the cost of a cup of coffee, I can play a game for a day. The cost of a single movie theater ticket, I could play an game for an entire month.

Since they have to ship the order, I hope they plan on having a grace period for people who are waiting for their copies to show up.

I went with the Digital download myself. From what I heard the next Beta (Phase 4) is actually not going to be 'wiped' or 'reset' prior to release. So, if you play the Beta, I think I'll only need the patch-update and input my 'code' into the registration site... and the code is emailed to me.

With that said, it may be nice to coordinate what server to play on. During Beta, I was on Gilgamesh and Leviathan. But by no means am I attached to any server at this moment.

Even on the low settings, I agree; it looks very well put together. When I logged in, I usually just sat the starting screen for a few minutes just listening to the prelude. Blew my mind how awesome is sounded.

I actually stumbled upon that quest by accident when I was leaving for another quest. Just saw the exclamation mark and when I noticed I already had the orange juice; I was all set.

My wait, since I was a healer, was much shorter, about 30 seconds at the longest. It's the same story for pretty much all MMO's though, so it's no surprise.

The blob was confusing the first time I ran it, but afterwards, I was usually the one telling the tank and dps how to do the fight. (Don't kill the bomb, pull the blob into the red area, kill the dudes attacking the bomb, etc.)

Agreed. More than likely, the servers will be clearly labeled once release hits so European players can easily tell which servers are closer to them. Since I am a fan of Final Fantasy, I'll be subbing just because of the story and familiarity of the game. From what I've seen though, from the first quest to the dungeons, fates, and other little goodies included, even new players will find their way around fairly quickly. A lot of people were chatting in general and they weren't all trolls like WoW, which was actually refreshing for a change

Your right. I was reading the Beta Tester forums and characters from Phase 4 (open beta) will carry over into release. I got my code when I pre-ordered the CE for the bonuses included. My guess is there will be a grace period or something, maybe another code we get when release hits that gives us some time to play before actually having to input the code. Seems like an easy thing to do if they already know who has the CE and who doesn't.

I was playing on Cactuar during Beta, but I dunno about when it launches. If Cactuar is available at launch, I'll probably go there. If not, I'll just look at names I recognize, where they are, and set up shop there.

I instantly recognized the name so I kinda latched onto it. I knew the other names like Leviathan and Gilgamesh, but there's Cactuars in every FF game, I like them as characters, it was easy to remember, and it was a North American server, so I just went there.

Kind of an interesting Open Beta weekend for FFXIV-Realm Reborn.

I got pretty far on Friday, even knocked out the first three Dungeons. Next day, Saturday evening, didn't get back on until after dinner. Then sadly got hit by an unknown "lost connection" while zoning from Central Than to Western Than. After which... boom, 3102 error.

No matter, I found out I could make a character on a JP server and happily continued my trek (with a new character).

Anyhow, I discovered this AM before work I was able to login to my characters on the NA/EU servers (Cactuar). I promptly teleported to the city and logged out properly at an inn. Whew.

Anyone else get hit with the '3102 error' bat? Or manage to avoid it?
