Star Trek Online is great to pick up and play for an hour or two at a time, unless you are playing with friends or like to PvP then there is always something to discovery or improve a pond. If you cannot enjoy playing for no reward other then pride Star Trek Online might not be for you.

The space combat is similar to Star Trek Legacy with a better UI and more skills(attack/defense). You have Bridge Officers that you can promote and train. You do not really interact with them like Bridge Commander, but they provide extra skills to your ship in Space Combat and they also go on Away-Missions with you on the ground.

Space PvP is set up as groups of 5v5 or 10v10. There are area control maps and straight out team-deathmatch.

Ground PvP that plays like Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force II(I'm not as familar with it as I enjoy the space combat more).

Loot is provided through a badge reward and turn-in system via the PvP system. You can also get upgrades by completing missions given to you by Starfleet Command.

To Captain better ships you have to level through tiers(Level 1-11. 12-21 ... and so on) starting with the Miranda, moving to the different types of Science, Escort and Cruisers ships.

The best way to find out if Star Trek Online will run on your computer is to find someone with a guest pass from the Collector's Edition or to wait till Cryptic provides a free trail.

It should be enough, but you will not progress as fast as someone who spends 3-10+ hours a day.

It might be hard to complete some of the longer chain quests within an hour, but most of the mission seem to be broken into sections that take 15-20 minutes to complete and can be continued when you come back.

The PvP line(queue) is very fast at Captain level(5-7minute wait at most), but I could see it getting longer to get into a match as people level. Creating a gap in level with the player base. I have many friends who are playing that only have time to login once or twice a week(Family & Work get in the way). The 80 hours of original box content is going to last them 2-3 months.

If you play approx 7 hours a week this equals about 28 hours a month is that worth $15USD a month + the original price of the game($50USD) to you.

I'm personally having a lot of fun with the game. I'd echo a lot of what Jaden has said already, in how it plays and the amount you can currently gain from it. Never forget of course that an MMO on launch is just the starting point. The most exciting aspect for me personally is knowing that Cryptic are forever busying themselves on new content, features, abilities and who knows what else. This helps when you consider some of the bugs and shortcomings of the game, but in my opinion it's certainly worth a look in.
