A number of you have probably seen the 'Nerd Rage - GTA V Midnight Release' video. If you haven't then here it is
So far the internet seems divided (what else is new?) is the customer being an idiot and the manager rightfully puts him in his place or is the manager giving terrible service and deserves to get a disgruntled customer? So what are your thoughts? Who wins? Who loses?

I think the lady should have acted more professionally, after all she is the Manager. However, I also believe that the customer is not entirely innocent either. He should've just asked for the Manager's details then left instead of just constantly going on and on blowing the whole thing out of proportion. Maybe he should've taken his frustration out on the GTA copy he just bought
Like he said in the video, his business card is public information anyway. I personally don't like it when people overuse words like Harassment (For example, people who complain about Police harassment when the officers talk to them for like 2 minutes)

Funny thought I am a bit confused about something... was this guy raging because he had to show id?? If he was, then he is an idiot. As far as the manager is concerned, she handled it the right way, whether she was right or wrong in the matter. But again, judging from what there is in the video, the guy is a low-raging nerd.

I believe the ID for his age was the reason he was upset, a stupid reason, companies ask because I believe there are heavy fines for supplying to those under age, as well as other penalties. The fact that he gave a business card out in the first place is stupid, that customer is stupid and doesn't make anyones job any easier as well as holding up the queue.
She should probably have acted in a more professional manner though, it didn't really do much for her except in the eyes of those waiting and that might have been what caused her to act like that, because there was an audience.

I have to agree with Three said, I know that here in the netherlands from what i understood if a store would supply the game to someone younger then what is adviced on the box of the game they can get a fine of 2500 euro(or something very close to that) and if a store would be caught doing it multiple times they could be forced to shutdown.
I do think that the way the manager acted also was partially cause she had a audience of costumors in the queue waiting

Since it was a midnight release and having been to a few of them at Gamestop, asking for the ID was to make sure that someone picking up the game is the actual person that pre-ordered it in the first place, whether is was just the $5 dollar or fully payed off. I know for a fact most employees of Gamestop will ask for ID at these to make sure they get everyone in and out as fast as possible. Have had mine checked plenty of times.

Lol well I had missed this because I don't really care for GTA games *ninja-dodge* but this is kinda funny.
I sympathise with the manager. After 6 years in retail management, I came to realise that the whole "customer is always right" thing is nonsense. Too many take it to mean they can act however they want and still expect to be treated like gold, showing absolutely no consideration for the person behind the counter, which is exactly what this looks like.
Were I in her shoes I'd have given him the address of head office and wished him luck arguing over the ID policies

Who knows, everybody needs an audience, otherwise it never would have been blown stupidly like that on both sides. The fact there was a long of people doing nothing but queuing and going "Duuuuude...!" every 5 seconds equates an audience in the manager's favour, although I'd never buy another game from that place knowing the nice professionalism "behind the counter".

I went to get GTA V in Asda, no proof of age asked which I had expected considering I still get asked for ID to get into some nightclubs and for some drinking establishments. What I do find interesting however that this guy was obviously in his 40's surely a rational seller would not need proof of his age. When does it get silly to ask somone of their age before a video game sale? 60, 70, 80? I mean this is what is ridiculous about our Western Society that we feel we need to do this all so that we can avoid being sued.etc.
I'm personally on the side of the nerd for several reasons. 1. She was so being a b*tch about it all. 2. She refused to give him her last name, lets say her name is Suzanne, you go to customer service to complain about Suzanne, Customer service respond "We are a company spread all across the United States we have a great amount of people called Suzanne". 3. This guy looks like he lacks supporters, therefore I shall get in his corner.

Ultimately what I got from this was: he was getting pissed because she made a joke...
Although I can understand his viewpoint, he took it too far, especially considering the fact there wasn't any need to be like that
But at midnight?? even if someone said something to me in a shop, that may be a bit unprofessional - I would just be glad that they stayed in all day and up until midnight so I can come in and get a game

So time to weigh in with my opinion.
The customer is a bit stupid for thinking a business card could be used as I.D. and he does need to be more understanding of the consequences for selling age restricted products to those under that are under age. That said the Manager should be doing a better job explaining why they need to check for I.D. and should show at least some professionalism when dealing with a disgruntled customer even if that customer is in the wrong, for her it is a sort of two wrongs don't make a right.
The customer was in the wrong but rather than trying to resolve the problem and calm things down she deliberately escalates things which only makes the customer more unhappy, makes her look unprofessional and causes more disruption for everyone else.
