    Today a important day in our history, The 69th remembrance of Operation Market Garden.

    Operation Market Garden
    An allied operation that failed, but it was the biggest airborne operation in history even bigger then D-Day.

    The actuall 69th remembrance is from the 17th to the 25th September, But today is the remembrance event of the mass dropping during Market Garden will start at the Ginkelse moor near Ede. This year more than 800 parachutist will jump on the former drop zone.
    Yearly we remember in the cities that Market Garden took place in the fallen allied troops.
    For those who live in the area or happen to be near it, It is something that is worth to witness and then imagine that this was more then 10times as big back in 1944

    Since I live in Nijmegen, 1 of the cities that this Operation was about this ofcourse comes close to home, I got told lots of stories about it by my grandparents and friends of theirs about what they saw back then.
    and this year my brother's unit will be part of the jump so there for I shall be today!

    The Miniseries "Band of Brothers" has a pretty good episode (or two) pertaining to "Market Garden." It was a balsey move by the Allies, just like D-Day was. They had to give it a shot as it meant the possibility of ending the war earlier.
