New Here And A Bit Overwhelmed (And Some Questions)

Hello, all. Great site that you have here. There's a lot to absorb at one time so I'm just going to jump in with a few starter questions:

1) Where do I start with all the info on this site??

2) How do I apply for membership to the UFP for STO? I'm ready to join a new fleet.

3) Duty Officers Questions:
a) Do I have to check multiple places to see available assignments? If so, what is the list? So far I've been checking current sector, personal, and from my bridge. Are there others to check such as the Fleet base?
b) Do the available missions change from sector to sector within a sector block?
c) Anyone here use the DoffTrekker spreadsheet? It looks like a nice tool but I can't make heads or tails out of it.

Hi there!
To join UFP, first you need to fill out this application.
Then, once your application has been accepted, you can put in a fleet invite request here.

As for DOff assignments, there are usually different assignments for every sector block, as well as your personal list and in social areas like Starfleet Academy, Earth Space Dock, etc.

Hey Jeff!

Welcome to the UFP! It's always great to see new people take an interest in our community. I'll attempt to answer your questions as best as possible.

1) For information about UFP, as in our community as a whole, the best place to start is here, as it explains to the overall community an how it works. It is a lot of take in all at once, since it is a very large group encompassing people from all over the world participating in a variety of different activities, but if you have any additional questions, just ask away!

2) There are two steps to joining our in-game fleets. First you need to join the UFP, which can be done here. Once that is completed you can request an in-game invite here.

3) a)There are a slew of different places to check for Doff assignments, and they change quite regularly. Some have 'spawning zones', such as Asylum missions, and can be checked on stowiki.org, and others simply need to be searched for. Current sector, personal, and bridge, are all great places to check, but don't forget to check the various exploration zones, like Rolor or Zenas, for unique Colonization mission chains.

Basically: Keep looking, you'll find some good ones over time!

b) Yep, they change from sector to sector.

c) I used to use the tracking sheet, but frankly that was ages ago so I have no idea what would be changed on it now. Personally I get the recruitment missions at the Academy, warp to Ds9, grab any haggle missions around those sectors, and then check for Support missions in the exploration zones (Extra Doffs is always good!)

Regarding DOFF assignments, are there areas where I will see overlap? For example, if talking to my department heads show me assignments that I don't see on the Current Map or Personal? Likewise, if I visit my bridge do I have to personally visit each officer on my ship or will using the communicator in my office give me the same list of missions? I'm trying to figure out where I have to visit and where I don't to see available missions, since it always seems I have more available officers than available missions.

I find the easiest way to manage my DOFFS and their assignments is from the DOFF screen accessible from just under the mini-map in the top right corner. From here you can easily access assignments available in the sector you are currently in (Available Assignments), below that you can get to any personal ones (Personal Assignments) and a few tabs down you can speak to your officers about assignments they have.

Sadly there isn't just one place to be able to access any available to you because some require special contacts that you have to speak to directly, such as on DS9 or on our Fleet Starbase.

Welcome to the UFP, as a few of already said, it can be somewhat overwhelming at first....but get your head round it and STO is an absolutely amazing game! :-)

Hello and Welcome!

I know what you mean, at first I was like WOQZERS! Where do I start!
But little by little you start to feel your way around and find all the information contained within the forums.
One thing I would point out is that you could always ask questions via the in-game chat or thru Teamspeak. I find its a great way to get some of that tribal knowledge!

That is helpful; thank you. What about visiting your ship's bridge? Are there missions there that don't appear elsewhere? And I didn't even know you could pick up missions at a Fleet Starbase. Is there a resource somewhere that lists all the missions and where you can pick them up? It seems like there are a lot of different places to find them.

You can pick up missions by speaking to specific contacts on your ship there are also some assignments that only appear in specific areas as well as some which can only be obtained via items.

I don't know of any list that has a complete list of all of the available assignments however HERE is the best list I know.
