Alright, I've been fussing with my daughters' Duplo blocks (Cinderella's Carriage set has a couple key pieces I used) trying to make a good starship FOREVER. Mind you with four of the quarter-circle flats, I could do a nice saucer, although it would be very "perfect" like the Constitution class. But alas, here are my attempts. Of course if I had more pieces all around things would be better. And don't bug me about colors... it's Duplo blocks, for Pete's sake.
Caymen
Attempt 1
Using a bridging piece from the castle sets to connect the nacelles, this put the nacelles towards the bottom and it looks more like a Klingon vessel. A good first (ok, 173rd or so) attempt.
Attempt 2
Tried to make the nacelles even with the saucer, using that same bridging piece to connect the back and front. Looks more like an NX class, but still neat.
Attempt 3
Ok, finally got it right I think, and it actually resembles some sort of Galaxy-like vessel. Pretty happy with this one. The cool thing about this one is that it locks really well, so you can fly it around and make "pew pew" noises and it won't fall apart! Locking is the secret to all Lego (and Duplo) building.

I'm not so sure about a Galaxy class but I definitely see a Rhode Island class in there.
I did the same thing with my son's megablocks(Big Legos) but there weren't any curved pieces so it ended up looking like a connie or a sideways gun from the movie Black Hole or a poor attempt at a Vehicle mode G1 Megatron...Your's looks way better in comparison my friend.

I can't say I've made any starships yet, but my son is almost one so I'm sure it will happen.
Thus far its been office towers so he can go all godzilla on them, and a big fort with mega blocks and blankets from where we laid seige against that symbol of matriarchal tyranny (mom) by hurling small bouncy balls.

Yeah, I'm afraid if I had four curved pieces for the saucer it would look like a constitution. At least with the more rigid back-end of the saucer you can pretend a number of things like Rhode Island, Sovvy perhaps, or other less perfect-circle ships. I guess I could have 4 curves and two flats and make it a big oval to make the Sovvy, but then the ship would be about twice as big - I don't have enough pieces for that.
We're talking scraps from my daughters' princess- and animal-themed sets.
You rock. And yes, building things so they can break them is great. Although, we've gotten my 4yo a couple of the "big girl" Lego sets and she just wants me to build something (castle, house, etc) so she can play. I still have to ingrain in her the art, love, fun, and skill of building...
