Hello all

Noob question as I'm getting closer to level 50 and making a ship purchase. What are Fleet Marks and how best can I earn them? I think its from donating to Fleet projects but not positive.

Well Fleet marks you get from some fleet actions. Fleet Alert being my favorite, quick and painless. You can start doing those now if you want. You use the fleet marks to donate to the fleet, doing so gets you fleet credit. That's what you buy stuff with.

I notice many of the projects available are already filled on everything but duty officers and Dil. Is there something I'm missing about how to give Fleet Marks?

Quick as to catch a project when it starts? How do you know when a project starts?

You just gotta keep an eye on the holdings. Watch the timers so you know when there gonna start.

Another option would be to request a transfer to 2nd or 3rd fleet. Both have significantly smaller numbers so you will be able to donate marks more often. You can get an invite back to first whenever you need to buy a ship or when you have enough fleet credits.

Second fleet moves pretty quick too. My Rommy had to wait near a week for a project to need em. I kinda/sorta dumped all 1200 marks I had at once lol

This is a challenging part of STO in my opinion. There are so many different ways to purchase ships but its a challenge to get the marks or credits. But it seems that the Fleet versions of ships are much better than the basic versions, correct? I'm trying to decide on my first level 50 purchase as I hope to hit 50 this weekend or early next week.

I keep my primary toon in 2nd fleet for the marks, I tried 3rd for a while, but those projects all required a ton of dilithium, and thats the one item that seems to always get filled last. Like Shakken said, 2nd moves quickly, but you can let you marks build up and dump them as you can. I also keep the fleet credit boosts when I get them in boxes, they add 20% to your credit when you donate.

Fleet ships (T5.5) have one more more console slot (10 vs 9) than the basic versions, and usually +10% hull/shields.

Many lockbox ships and a few C-Store ships are also T5.5, such as the Jem HEC or the Vestas.

Note that there is a distinction between Fleet ships and ships purchased from the Fleet - the Odyssey obtained from the Fleet is a T5 ship with 9 console slots. The three Odysseys from the C-Store are T5.5 ships with 10 console slots.

Essentially all Tier 5.5 (Fleet tier) ships come from the C-Store, Lockboxes, or Fleet holdings, but not all ships from the C-Store, Lockboxes, or Fleet holdings are Tier 5.5.

If it has 10 console slots, it's T5.5, if it only had 9 console slots, it's T5.

T5 was the "final" tier of ships for a very long time, until the Oddy 3-pack became available and upped the power level slightly to T5.5.
