Following last Saturday's Fleet Day, I thought I'd gather some opinions from two of our senior members to see what they thought of the event. The consensus was that Fleet Days and other events staged by the members were a great way of bringing the fleet together socially. It was viewed as a very positive experience, with benefits ranging from simple showing off of the Tier 5 ships, to a group of Rear Admirals getting stuck in to the new raid-style content while others battled the Crystalline Entity. As both Reggie and Sharpkiller have noted, STO's comprehensive instancing system makes it harder for people to simply encounter each other even at hubs like Spacedock or DS9, so aside from the Fleet channel it can often feel quite lonely. Fleet Days put paid to that and really show how many of us there really are in {UFP}, and are a fantastic way to meet up with fleetmates you may not have known you had.
For the interview with Rear Admiral Reggie Briggs, read on!
Tiberius Smith:
Ok, so talking about the most recent Fleet Day. What do you think was the best thing about it?
Reggie Briggs:
To see members of the fleet (at short notice) turn up in a show of force and a show of community ingame, quite a few members taking time out from leveling up, raiding and pvping to just hang out.
Tiberius Smith:
What was the general feeling like at the event?
Reggie Briggs:
On Teamspeak I can tell you we had a bit of a laugh during the event when we were doing the picture opportunity, especially having a bit of fun with the emotes as usual! I hope some of the members had fun just meeting up and seeing the other players in the fleet and the initial awe was there when they saw some of the higher level ships.
Reggie Briggs:
And of course people had fun with the Crystalline Entity.
Tiberius Smith:
What kind of ideas do you have for activities on Fleet Day for people to take part in?
Reggie Briggs:
Well I know me and a group of other admirals took from the get together and we went and tried that new Special Task Force: Infected mission and ended up spending a good 5 hours straight at it, just from a little get together. Some of the lower level players too took the opportunity to again try the Crystalline Entity. Maybe organising some of these ideas beforehand could make it a bit more enjoyable in future, something to look forward to and plan for?
Tiberius Smith:
That sounds interesting. I'll certainly be looking forward to the next one!
Reggie Briggs:
Well, we are one big community, I just enjoy seeing that community get together rather than just being bonded by the forums and a endless supply of energy credits as it seems!
Reggie Briggs:
STF was a doozy... I'd like to think it was possible, I know it can be with a right strategy and a varied occupation between the team, all engineers and a couple tactical is not the way to do the mission in the first 6 hours.
Tiberius Smith:
It's a learning experience.
Tiberius Smith:
If any members of the fleet have ideas to contribute to the next Fleet Day, how would they go about presenting them? Is there anyone in particular they should get in contact with?
Reggie Briggs:
They could suggest them in forums or simply PM anyone with a bit of muster inside the fleet at the moment, I know I'm interested in stuff around the Starfleet Operations and the Star Trek Online purely because I'm quite addicted. However if you wanted to let Vice Admiral Mullaly or one of the XOs know, i'm sure they will be looking to organise more stuff in the future.
Tiberius Smith:
Ok, that's good to hear. One last thing. Do you have any screenshots of the event, or know anyone that does?
Reggie Briggs:
I'm not sure who has the screenshots per se but I'm hoping people will be posting them soon in the forums, I have a couple but they are hardly quality photos.
Tiberius Smith:
Perhaps that's something to be worked into the next event, an organised photo op and demonstration of formation flying!
Tiberius Smith:
That's all my questions for now, but do you have anything else to add?
Reggie Briggs:
We could surely give it ago, I just hope those that did show up enjoyed it for what its worth and those that didn't make it don't fret because you missed it and look forward to the next one
Admiral Sharpkiller missed the main event, as did I, but was willing to share a few words. If you want to find out what he thinks of Fleet Days and fleet events in general, keep your sensors tuned for the next issue of the Herald!
My thanks to Reggie and Sharpkiller for their time and cooperation. It looks like Fleet Day is here to stay, so if you have any ideas about what you would like to see happening - speak up! And should anyone have pictures of the event, please feel free to pass them around.
