Fed Science vessels

I've focused most of my playing in recent times with my Gorn Tactical in his fleet Torkhat battle cruiser and my lRomulan Tactical (KDF aligned) in his T'varo fleet Torpedo boat. That being said lately I had my fed rejoin UFP to play some stuff on the fed size again . Just to mix things up I want to use my science character and play a science oriented ship.

I've saved up enough to zen (and amassed enough fleet credits) to purchase a ship for that character. I'm looking for folks to make recommendations. That being said I am leaning toward a faster science ship, perhaps to be outfitted with mostly torpedoes and utilizing gravity well powers, etc. I might also consider an energy drain ship.

The Vesta, Fleet Nova, and/or Fleet Intreprid come to mind but I want to hear from folks here form their experiences before I invest in my fed ship :-)

i would recommend the vesta 3-pack since you could outfit any of the 3 to its own purpose (tactical for damage, science for drain, engineering for more tanking). love the balance of the ships (and its aux cannons )

i am currently running a gravwell/torpspread/cannonscattervolley (2 copies of each) build on my tactical vesta with the full adapted maco and full omega assimilated borg set and 20.000 shields on each side. there is not much that can stand in its way - though i have to say that ive rarely flown it in PvP- so my experience there is limited.

There is a saying around here that goes like this "Vesta is Besta." And its not a joke. I have every science ship on fed side and hands down, nothing compares to the Vesta.

flexibility, quick and a fighter squadron. If you want the best, go with a Vesta.

(I should start selling Vestas, I promote them enough)

Speaking of the Vesta, how do the new Dyson destroyers compare? Higher hull, shields, and slightly higher impulse (+0.01). The mode switching isn't worth giving up a hanger?

The Dyson ship actually is pretty good, but you can't make the material of the hull look like any faction ship. To me that's a deal breaker on that ship.

I'd say that the best science ships for Federation are in order 1) Vesta, 2) Fleet Nova(Rhode Island), or 3) Dyson. Though my ranking of Dyson at 3 is probably due to the fact that I don't own the 10 console version. It probably is better than the Nova.

If you go non-faction ship, I've heard that the Wells(Time Ship) is the best science ship.

The problem with the Dyson ship is the lack of a universal ltcmdr slot. The loss of flexibility kills it for me

Or you could be stubborn like me and keep pushing the Intrepid, even though I think I've hit it's theoretical maximum and could easily outdo it with a Vesta...

Vesta is besta! ...and I'm saying that as a Tac Captain. But later on down the line grabbing a Nova is not a bad choice. It's a fun little ship.

Is saving up for the Vesta three pack worth it? Sometimes the "set" consoles turn out to be kind of not worth their price as they take up so many slots.

I like the Nova and it is a little faster/ maneuvrable but its hard to argue that trade to the aux cannons, hangar bay, etc :-)

The Vesta set is one of the better sets in-game. I'd say that ship has aged amazingly well.

Personally, I think the Dyson ship is better than the vesta. it lacks some of the flexibility, but I think the swapability adds a different sort of flexibility that is still useful and a cmdr tac can be nasty. Did you know APO III can buff science damage too? behind that I would put the Fleet Science vessel Retrofit (Fleet Nova), don't bother with the non fleet version as that's just an RSV (Luna) with less hitpoints, and while I don't buy into the vesta is besta propaganda, the Vesta is fairly solid (except for the fact it's hull isn't).

If you want to try your hand at lockbox ships, the Wells is a very very good ship, and probably ties for the top spot, but is very expensive. Also, though not many sing its praises, I find the Orb weaver to be fairly solid even if it won't win any awards for smashing things, and it boasts 2 LtC slots.

At the end of the day though, pretty much any science vessel can be useful and fun to fly, and each one of them has something to offer.
