The February Short Story Competition was a huge success, and Dentari showed us his great winning entry. I will continue to work with FEO and Christopher Halsey to run these every two months. So in that vein, let us kick off the March/April competition! The rules are similar to the above with one exception: there is a super-secret "theme" to which you should adhere if at all possible. See below for specifics and I look forward to reading great stories again!
Rules
The point of the short story contest is to show off your writing and story-telling skills. This can be a couple paragraph quip all the way to a multiple paragraph tale. As recommended in the past, towards the shorter end is probably more ideal as it allows people to get into the action quickly. But the length is your choice.
Remember, in order to anonymize this as best we can, try to avoid using your own name or those of your known characters. We want to keep any bias out of the voting if at all possible.
The theme this time is set, but it is not ready to be announced. You should write your story using this theme as a backdrop of some sort.
Process
The process is simple:
- First step - PM me to get the "theme". You will need to keep this to yourself - we are monitoring all communications!
- Next, compose your story - again, on the shorter side is probably better (especially with a lot of entries).
- Submit your entry by sending a PM to me, >> Caymen Greener <<. Include the title and content. Submit these to me by March 28th!
- Sometime in April, we will vote as a community. The stories will be posted to the voting thread anonymously, in the order in which I receive them.
- Shortly thereafter, we will end voting and announce a winner.
Prize!
Other than eternal fame and glory, there has to be a prize, right? I have arranged with Mikester92 once again that the winning story and its author will be featured in our News outlet to be read by all those in and out of the UFP community!
So get to your writing (remember send a PM to me above, not a reply here to this thread) - you have two weeks or so to submit!

Indeed, the entry deadline is today. I won't be hard on the actual time and timezones, but get your entries in ASAP. We have JUST enough to hold a decent competition, but a couple more would be good.
