    We've been discussing ways to move the simms forward, especially Legacy. The main issue we're having is consistent participation. As the lead GM (and former Harriers CO) I take responsibility and I am also taking the liberty to effect the changes outlined below. At my count, we have about 10-15 people max right now who participate in the simms, not all active. It ends up being 20 or so characters total.

    So what we're going to do to move things forward is merge into one simm. This also means we're going to reboot a bit and retool. We will fast forward 6 months from the events of the August finding a lush new planet and Legacy being attacked by Klinks. I will have a story out shortly about what happened and where we leave off.

    And yes, this is a VERY long post - please read thoroughly before freaking out! Smile

    What does this mean for you?

    You will need to consider two major things as we move forward. First, are you willing to commit to playing your character, and doing a minimum of one post/log per week and/or participating in at least one JP almost all the time? If so, continue on to the second question. If not, you might just need to take a pass for now. I'm really going to be requiring active participation, and this includes a swift kick to myself as well! Smile

    Second, what role(s) do you want to play? As you can see from the chart below, we are merging into one simm, but we will still have two separate "outlets" - a starship and a base. So you need to decide, based on the question above, which character(s) do I want to continue with and what roles will they play? You may only have one character and thus this is an easy answer. Or you may have two, and you might want to switch things up. So think about this. And yes, new characters are welcome, but I still don't want people to have more than two (yet).

    Immediate action

    So based on the two questions above, you need to re-apply for your roles. If you apply for the same role you had before, you will NOT be denied. If you want to switch things up and two people want the same role, we'll just sit down and discuss like adults and figure out how best to proceed.


    So fill this out - if you want a Starship-based role, choose the August; if you want a colony/civilian role, choose Legacy. And remember, this is not just an application to play, but a contract in a sense to (re)dedicate yourself to the simm and remaining active therein.

    Org Chart

    Yes, I'm an IT nerd and I made a chart. Below you will see how we will break things down. Basically, we're forming a "Task Group" as a part of Starfleet, under the command of Joon. He will live at the Colony and kind of be the CO there, but not really (see below).

    The ship will go off and do its thing and the colony will deal with being a colony. The colony will have civilians, and hopefully some civilian scientists and researchers for this new planet we're on. The best part of merging into one simm (Nova instance) and yet keeping two manifests is that we can easily 1) do combined missions and 2) allow characters to jump around once in a while for a change of pace.

    Notes:
    • This is not an exhaustive list, just highlights the departments and leader roles.
    • Blue = August, Grey = Outpost (the outpost will have both Starfleet and Civilian components)
    • The ranks in the areas are pretty much random at this point.

    Leadership Needs

    So as you can see we have some opportunities for roles. I left names out on purpose in all roles except Joon but here is the gist as far as leadership roles:
    • Joon will be the Task Group CO and Simm GM (me duh)
    • Greener will leave (I have plans for him elsewhere), leaving the August CO and XO positions open for suggestion. There are a couple logical choices here.
    • We will need an Outpost Commander, which is kind of the XO of the Starfleet side of the colony. This serves as a CO, even though Joon technically has command.
    • We also need a Civilian leader, which I am calling the Commissioner. Think councilman, representative, or governor. There is a logical choice here as well.

    So Joon, August CO, August XO, Outpost Commander, and Commissioner will be the five leadership roles. These people (the players) will also need to be Assistant GMs, and will need to help drive the simm and its missions. These roles will not be taken lightly and will require participation, leadership, and strategizing. These people will work together (forum threads, OOC Nova threads, etc) to plan missions, ensure people are keeping active, and give trouble-makers like Josh slaps on the write (just kidding Josh).

    If you want to be in one of the four open leadership positions, ask yourself if you also want to help lead and manage the simm with me. If yes, apply and we'll get things going to discuss!

    Conclusion

    So the simm is rebooting. I am going to lock posting for now on both simms until we figure this out. Please reply to this thread with any questions or concerns and we'll discuss.

    Will some of you be unhappy? Undoubtedly. But as the lead GM and the main one taking action throughout the 3 years of simming, I am making this call and we're going to roll with it. I think it will be loads of fun, and it should truly re-energize the simm. And, nothing is saying we cannot try something different in a while if this doesn't work out.

    Yes, this will catch a few people by surprise. And believe me, much of this is due to me not staying on top of things, and much of the kicking and strict policies are for me as well. We all just need to re-commit and get back into this thing, and I think if we leave the past behind and start something semi-fresh, we're going to have a blast!

    I've sent in my application for Zoteke Madwan's continuation as fighter squadron commander. I still don't know why exactly but of all the characters that i've given substance since the early 90s Zoteke Madwan is special to me somehow.

    But as for my second character i'm faced with a dilemma. On the one hand i'm aching to get my first command in the fleet and so applying with a new character for a CO or XO position on the August is most appealing.

    On the other hand there's Bloc who's about the most obvious candidate for the civil leadership role. Personally i think it'd be best for me to have one character on the colony and one on the August. Zoteke being the fighter squadron commander on the colony it seems best to go with a fresh new character and go for CO or XO on the August.

    Any ideas on this from anyone? Most important for me is that i serve where and as what i am most needed.

    id be interesting into getting a command role if needed at the same time I want to stay on August jolan does also have platoon command <and higher> experience he did lose a entire marine/Navsog regiment
    on Memory alpha afterall like I said im open to be moved wherever aslong as it keeps me with what I know (tactical/security or if I make a new character enginerring) on the same page if you don't want Jason being a pilot anymore he did qualify for NAVSOG capability))

    the GM's can move Jolan and Jason where they see fit

    My plan was to have the Shepherds still around, and one of the main defenses of the colony. Smile

    I'll have a slightly-updated "org chart" up soon with some known positions filled.

    I have allready got some engineering posts half worked out to think up specs that make the sparrow be capable as atmospheric fighter as well as a space domincance tactical fighter.

    Maybe the same is needed for the Peregrines?

    either that or sparrows become standard issue cause last I checked perigrines while capable of operateing in atmosphere they would be more a risk then an asset unless Starfleet has another dedicated craft for both roles
