Folks,

I come to you on behalf of the newly implanted Federation Council with a proposal to introduce an addition to our forums. This would be a sub-forum of Utopia Planitia called "Captain's Logs" and would be a place for folks playing games such as STO to post logs or character information. These would not be limited to STO and could relate to Reserves games and others. It could even be used in addition to the rest of Utopia Planitia's creative works for a collection of logs and character info.

Two items could be placed in this forum, each with their own "prefix". First, the obvious Captain's Log where characters log their activities from in-game. This would be prefixed with [LOG]. Second, users could add character information to share their character's biography, information, backstory, and other details - even linking to their logs. This would be prefixed with [CHARACTER].

Two prime and recent examples of this are:

• Character Info: From TLuminareth, https://ufplanets.com/showthread.php...o-T-Luminareth

We also have Klingon and Romulan STO character listings that could be transplanted here.

What can you do? Reply to this thread with your support, questions, and thoughts on the proposal. We may move this up into FEO's hands as one of the capabilities of the Council, depending on the feedback here.

Right you are, and extreme apologies. Lodge a complaint with your representative and we'll go from there... oh wait. Soral did do some short story writing as well so that's probably where I got confused.

And Torinth, we may have had something, but not quite with prefixes and such. If we did, it got folded into UP when we moved to the new forums.

In all seriousness, I think this is a fantastic idea. Another opportunity to flex those creative writing muscles, and maybe give some new people the push they need to make the jump from there to the sims or the creative writing contest.

Only downside is I can see it encroaching even more into my already incredibly limited free time

This is an interesting idea. I previously was part of another community years back where we wrote many fan fiction about our characters in World of Warcraft and had some decent story telling. This would definitely be a great addition that would compliment our Simm offering that would be more tailored towards those who write more short fiction of journal style story telling.

I definitely put my support behind this Caymen.

The Captains Logs, if implemented, would add a greater level of immersion and depth to all manner of game play and characters. Bringing this idea before the community allows for maximum feedback on the topic.

Please raise concerns, offer alternatives, provide personal opinions. The Federation Council is after all a democratic body, so this thread best represents the style of approach we wish to take in regards to putting proposals before you, the community.

Personally, I find the idea of Captains Logs to be an exciting prospect, and one addition to the forums which I myself would definitely use.

Caymen......No Apologies Needed, I think the Captains Log's Idea is a fantastic one! As I have mentioned Previously, anyone interested in featuring in one of my Captain's Logs need only PM me with some details and i will be sure to write them in.

Personally, I believe vB's Blog feature would be the perfect implementation for The Captain Log's proposal. In lieu of that, the suggestion of using forum prefixes could prove to be an easy and low tech solution. I wish you all the best in seeing this concept to fruition.

We're trying to strike the right balance between quality and ease of implementation. As it stands it should be a fairly simple addition to the existing repository of creative works that we have here, which is of course Utopia Planitia. If you want to expand on your idea further then please by all means feel free to drop myself, or any of my fellow councillors, a PM on the forums.

I like this idea, would certainly be interesting to see people adding their logs, and character bio - certainly a good read.
