    On the subject of Earth's overpopulation, I think interstellar travel would only solve this problem in the short term, if the situation is really critical. In the long run this wouldn't be a viable solution, since even if a sizeable percentage of people on a planet were 'shipped' away, there is no reason the population wouldn't grow back.
