I was really disappointed with GTA 5, it was an impressive technical feat but I just didn't find it fun to play. Firstly I didn't like any of the playable characters which is something of a surprise given the fact that this is the first GTA game where you have multiple main characters and they are all really different in every regard but I hated each of them and didn't want to play as any of them. Secondly the gameplay I found to be more like work than fun, I get that they are trying to make GTA more 'realistic' but to me rather than being a game it just felt like being some kind of virtual life simulator where I had to play someone I thought was an a**hole.
Watch Dogs on the other hand I really enjoy, technically it isn't anywhere near as complicated or well done as GTA 5 but I find it really enjoyable to play. Some people have criticised the main character for being a bit of a blank slate, personally I tend to like that in games as it makes it easier for you to see the character how you want to which I find makes it more immersive and besides the main character the rest of the characters are all really well done. As for the gameplay I think it's really enjoyable with lots of fun activities to do none of which take too long so nothing ever drags on, you also have a real choice as to how you approach the game.
GTA 5 might be a 'digital work of art' and is superior to Watch Dogs in probably every measurable way but for me Watch Dogs destroys GTA 5 when it comes to actually having fun and for me that is what a game is meant to be.

Can I late bump this to say I got it on the PC? I've just started on the story and can see what some people have said about the characters being difficult. Maybe i've just gotten too 'PC' to be able to relate to them as much as i'd like?
Really looking forward to getting into the online version though once I have a bit more experience!
