I don't know how I missed it, but just discovered this site where a fan is continuing the 5 year mission of the original series. Sets are incredible, acting isn't too bad, and they even got the actor who played Apollo in "who mourns for adonais" to reprise his character.
Looks like there are two episodes and a 3rd being released this month.
It's called Star Trek Continues...

I've watched a lot of Phase 2 and I love that series. I wish they would make more episodes, I believe they are in the process of raising money to do just that.

I'll have to watch phase 2. I must say I was really impressed with the star trek continues episodes. Especially the 1st two. Having such accurate sets definitely brings the audience in, and the scripts are very Star Trekian. To be frank, the thing that kept bringing me out of immersion the most was that the person playing McCoy really looked nothing like him, nor did he have the mannerisms or anything. Aside from that, I found it very entertaining, and very impressive.

To be honest, I'm exactly the same when I look at it.. but it's with all of the characters. I just can't get past it. I've tried, for Star Trek, I've tried.
Plus the new Kirk is a voice actor for anime (one of those that's in everything), of which I watch quite a lot.
