Hello UFP,

It's great to be here! I absolutely love your new-look forum and website, very snazzy indeed.

I'm wondering if anyone here remembers me from my days as a Global Moderator over at the illustrious startrek-online.net (STOnet).. gosh that seems so terribly long ago, back when the wonderful Perpetual Entertainment were in control of development. Is it really over six years since STOnet went offline?

Those of you with even longer memories might recall the once illustrious Omicron Fleet [OMF]. I'd been a member of the clan since 2001 and the early days of Elite Force, playing mostly EF and Bridge Commander (gods, I can still hear Legate Matan's voice in my head). I quickly developed a speciality in Diplomacy, rising rapidly through the ranks from Lieutenant Commander up through Vice Admiral, serving on the Admiralty Board and as Head of Diplomatic Relations (I would variously be appointed as Chief JAG where required). At our height, in early 2004, we had over 200 members playing across the Trek gaming continuum.

My earliest memories of {UFP} stretch back to 2001/2, with the first big clan war against DevilJones' Red Squadron and FEF. I was the lead diplomatic officer at the time, although a Captain, and worked with {UFP}, Eternal Knights, X-Fleet Sentinels, Nova Fleet, and various others to mount an ongoing offensive. We were eventually victorious, having not been the aggressors in the war, and FEF finally surrendered. Given DJ's natural hatred for all things diplomacy, it took a long while to hammer out a ceasefire with RS but I will always have admiration for {UFP} for their assistance.. particularly the wonderful John Hathaway who was at the time taking over as Fleet Admiral. I had risen to Vice Admiral by the time the next big debacle ensued in BC, this time involving both RS and RNGD and a "Coalition" to take on the "rot" that had set into the gaming culture before it spilled over into Legacy. In my opinion, without digressing too much, it was these big inter-clan wars which dissuaded newer (younger) clanners from getting involved and staying involved.

OMF never really recovered from the loss of the vast majority of the Trek gaming community, as interest in Bridge Commander and Elite Force waned with no successor games on the horizon, and many veteran members like myself veered away into PBEM role-plays or regrouped into smaller clans, trying to keep the flame alive. When ST-O was announced, I hurried over to STOnet and became very active in that community.. whilst also keeping a toe-hold in the OMF community.

Anyway, it's wonderful to see {UFP} still kicking around.. and doing very well it seems! I always had the sincerest respect for your members, and your leadership, stretching back to the beginning days. You conduct yourselves with honour and integrity, and were always firm friends of Omicron Fleet. I'd love to know if you still have copies of our old diplomatic agreements sitting around; we were MPP signatories for a short time before moving to a FA treaty.

Nice to meet you and I'm honoured with the fact that the UFP left a lasting impression on you a decade ago. Things have certainly changed over the years with the development of Star Trek Online, but we're also expanding our focus to include non-gaming Star Trek internet users to our forums/website etc.

I remember your name somewhat from STOnet, it's re-assuring I suppose that individuals from that era are still around.

Unfortunately, I don't think we have those records anymore of past treaties. People have come and gone over the years and our records practically only go back to the end of 2006 at the moment. I hope though you can understand this, but I have done a quick search and returned nothing I'm afraid.

I want to echo Ollie's statements, I'm glad that UFP is still going strong and long may it continue to. I mostly put that down to a culture of fairness and efficiency which has stood the test of time.

I really enjoyed my very brief time with your organisation, and my much longer time with OMF.
